7900 GRE & Reverb G2

Does anyone have this set up? I am curious about your performance. I am considering getting the GRE and upgrading to the next XTX when it comes out. I'm using a 2080ti with the VR preset and 2x MSAA. It's playable but not great. Obviously, a GRE isn't going to run high settings but medium settings with decent fps would be nice.

When you use the in-game monitoring, does it show CPU or GPU bound? I have a 10900k with a 3080ti and I am CPU bound so I will be upgrading my CPU/MB/Memory first. I'm sticking with NVDIA as some will swear its better in VR but for me, I have a bad AMD taste in my mouth from driver hell with AMD. Though I will be going AMD for my CPU as now I have a bad taste in my mouth from Intel and the lousy upgrade path of the 11th gen being a dog.

I've read that the in-game monitoring isn't accurate. The last time I checked it said CPU bound but I wasn't using process lasso. I know I'm running out of VRAM. Nvidia has better performance but I'm tired of the price gouging and low VRAM with everything but the top card.

No doubt, NVIDIA is not well liked except by investors in AI.

Groceries stores are not well liked either, but necessary and 3 chains own most of the market. A great GPU is needed to take a sim like DCS with VR to another level, so we put up with NVIDIA to obtain that goal. We don't have to like them; we just need them. I don't like my power company either but need them.

So, if you're planning a VR headset upgrade in the future, that should be a consideration.

I just noticed he said foveated and not fixed or dynamic, so I don't know if it's just dynamic or not.

I picked up a 7900XT. The in-game monitoring is GPU-bound now except in the menu. You might not need to upgrade everything. I only have a 9900k and 64GB of DDR4 3600. It might be the VRAM holding you back.

That was my original plan, to upgrade the GPU. It's an interesting concept that you upgrade the GPU and become GPU bound where as you would think that would make you even more CPU when your showing CPU bound. I've heard the in-game DCS monitor isn't trusted. I think the best way is going to have to be observing my own CPU use vs GPU use. Ultimately, I'm upgrading both anyway and since AMD is bring out new processors, soon I may get a really good deal on this generation or if justified in the reviews go for a 9000x3d when they come out. The 7800x3D is really proven right now though.

Which your your HMD's are you using for DCS?

 Reverb G2. I'll upgrade after the Pimax 12k comes out. Upgrading processors with AMD and not needing a new motherboard is an easy choice over Intel.

I wish they had more information on the 12k, some specs about the panels and lenses. It looks like it will be about as heavy as the Crystal since it has batteries too. I like that it has hand tracking and pass through which I wish were going to be on the Super. At 50ppd, the Super is already going to being needing a top tier PC.

The 12k is delayed. The current GPUs don't have enough connection bandwidth to support it yet.

I have no problem with that decision from a technical point of view. However, they've promised it for late 2022 and a bunch of other dates that they won't make. The lesson again is to not start tossing out dates unless there is at least a working version in the lab.

Although to be fair, we didn't get a new date in this video, so perhaps they are learning.

So that video is the first time I have heard of the Pimax MR front plate. Have they said anything about hand tracking with it? I'm starting to think that the Super may need a 5090 because of the 50 ppd, that may cause me to change my mind and get a Light.
