Hello,

I encountered a problem in BS in missions with a cloudlayer (i.e. deployment, "Back to Tere..." something). In this mission there's a cloud layer at about 2000m. When I come close to the layer (>1700m) the frames drop from 35-50 to 8-10. As soon as I descend back to <1700m everthing is just fine.

The information-bar (FPS; rendering) shows an increase of the value "update" from 15-20 to >75 as soon as I reach the critical altitude. When descending the value drops back to normal thus increasing the FPS.

I run BS in 1600x1050 with high details, medium water. As I said, the normal framerates are about 35-50 (depending on the situation).

My system:

Core 2 Duo, 3Ghz

4 GB RAM

ATI Radeon 4650, 512MB

Win XP32, SP3

DCS-Max affinity tool

Does anyone know the problem or, even better, a solution for it?

Thanks&greetings,

Blackadder

I think is haze/clouds is the only time I see a gain when using Catalyst AI. I noted this when I joined the 'Battle for Essentuki' MP mission for the first time in awhile. My fps are worse in that type of foggy enviornment but improve with standard Catalyst AI enabled. It is the only dependable time that happens.

You could probably edit a lua file to improve the fps if needed.

I have the same problem (and everyone else, I think). It is the same problem that exists in Lock on game.

I found a semi-solution - a mod for Lock on (but it works for DCS Blacks Shark too) called "Overcast cloud mod v 3.1" by Bobocop.

Only problem is that it more or less completely removes the overcast clouds/fog effect.

I wonder if someone else has some other solution (mod) which reduces FPS drop but you still have the clouds/fog.

I don't have this problem, with either LOMAC or BS.

When you have loaded into the sim do you alt=tab out and ctrl-alt-del click the processes tab find the DCS.exe right click and set afinity and click all four or both core. This will share the CPU load over the many core of your CPU. Increasing the frame rates as DCS is VERY CPU dependant. Try it and let me know. I have aQ6600 $gb of dominator ram Ati 4870 1gb graphics card and vista 64bit. When i set the afinity to all four cores I get more FPS and a crisper looking game.

Orford, if the game is launched with an application like DCSMax, there is no need to alt-tab or use the task manager.

As you can see in his list, the OP uses that application.

I tried all the Catalist AI - settings (standard, advanced) but there was no improvement of the situation. @Goldfinger: Are you sure about the mod, that it works fine with BS? How much increases the mod the fps in clouds?

Blackadder, It works. I have tried it.

If you use it, you do not get ANY FPS drop (so it is like flyining without clouds), BUT clouds are much less visible.

Thanks, I tried it and it's great. No FPS-drop anymore. And I IMHO the fog looks more realistic than without the mod. And the disadvantage of having no zero-visibility-fog isn't that big. Thanks goldfinger.
