To be fair, sometimes a trial is necessary

To be fair, you don’t see free trials in any other sim.
To be fair #2 cheap sodds misused the trials so ED had to set a id on each making such things very laborious

To be fair #3 It is an armed recce chopper that is easy to handle yet a capable weapon platform. If that is your cup of tea you know it.

If ED or a 3rd party dev decided on having trials, they would/should have taken into account misuse and genuine use in their marketing decision. Any misuse was probably an oversight on some control measures during trial implementation. Not everybody is familiar with choppers or what they would like or not like about a module. IMO, free trials are fair when ED's business model and sim situation inclines consumers to buy an endless number of modules to sustain their interest. A form of QA at release since module standards can vary.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against trials. I just don’t bother with them.
For me , I buy modules I bother to learn properly. A hard learned lesson since I own pretty much everything and about all jets is not used.
But I have no sympathy for anyone demanding trials. Because it is not a common practice in the genre, and demanding such a thing is just like said above , arrogance

I wouldn't say the OP or anyone here is demanding a trial. At the end of the day, consumers will differ in purchasing criteria. I think a module such as the Kiowa, today, would have reined in the undecided with a free trial.

For the op. @fapador

In my personal experience i will add some context.

I've never had the ka-50 in LOMAC.

The attack helicopters i've flown were in other sims.

<TL;DONT  NEED TO READ>The A-10A, The F15C were my first modules in LOMAC then DCS. I've had the A10C 2011 and the HUEY 2013 later on.

I am coming from the attack helicopter sims and games genre such Virtavia  Apache add-on for FSX (both alpha and delta), Enemy Engaged 1 and 2, i have read various manuals  helicopter with public and available documents back then  and i love the aggressiveness of the attack helicopter role, the apache in dcs came first and unexpected for me since i was waiting for something different like the Kiowa in 2019. <TL;DNTR ENDS HERE>

Despite the long term knowledge one can have, based on public and available documents and manuals and flying in many games and not being part of the US ARMY or Japanese Army, it is safe to say the Apache since 2007 when i initiated my life in sims was already an old friend and i wanted "something new".

I've got the Kiowa on the Launch Day, It is everything i expected it to be, it still have some minor bugs to fix, just like the well and renowned attack helicopters DCS have, it is not a critique per say, but part of the process, we have to thank  ED and its Third Party devs for making dcs a reality to come true on a HOME PC and not needing a multi million simulator at home.

I loved the scouting mission i provide to my friends, all the intel gathering and observation and communication are important, having to be a dedicated airborne personal target finder takes a lot of responsability

You can locate and prevent the : Hot SPAA/SAMS in your area wants to know your location and relay their position to jets and other attack helicopters and it is fun.

It is a fun experience even if you play alone, if you have someone dedicated on the cpg seat it will be wonderful.

It breaks the monotony of trying hard to get all the kills if you were on the attack helicopter (for  me at least because i know i have a killing machine in my hands and i want to do it all), and gives you a more focused state, a 360 view / tactical commander per say like an OWL, because it takes the responsibility away that one has  kill all the targets one see and now have to share and distribute targets  ( i was a greedy girl back then wanting all the kills despite working with my teammates!).

I can't say for sure about the flight model because it is different from the Apache  and huey. It carries more weight than  the huey-h that has more engine power vs 650hp engine from the kiowa. The MMS and its computers are not light i guess and carrying lots of missiles not gonna help. You are not limited though, you can carry various combinations of weaponry but your main mission is to locate targets.

THE MOST FUN FEATURE so far in my opinion are the SMOKE GRENADES.  (we need more POLYCHOP) #moresmokegrenades

The ability to throw them on enemy infantry /roadblocks or to locate your position and give the bearings to the target based on the smoke color you drop are priceless, all you can do is to improvise.

( 2km bearing 220 from the blue smoke!)

Give the 5 lines for helicopters or 9 for jets.

Buy it if you have friends that fly the kiowa or join r/WingmanFinder on reddit/discord.

I hope you like the module, Polychop has done a good job so far, they even fixed the gazelle.

I'd say give it a go.
