TallyHoLaddies Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 (edited) I’ve spent the last few days trying to figure this out, scoured the internet from countless YouTube videos, Reddit and posts here on DCS. Not a single one addresses the following: For me in OXRTK Foveated Rendering isn’t an option even though I have it installed. When I check the log from OXRTK it says that my 7900XTX is running DCS MT in DX11. According to the info on GitHub, for it work DCS needs to be run using DX12. i have Windows 11 and DX12 is installed and active. My guess is I need to use a force command in the shortcut but as of yet I haven’t figured out the format. If this isn’t the case and I’m missing something else, let me know. Thanks, TallyHo Edited to reference OXRTK and not OVRTK. Qcumber Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 I don't think that AMD GPUs are supported for OXRTK foveated rendering. You would need to use Quad Views Foveated. PC specs: 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64GB RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - (for posts before March 2025: 5800x3d - rtx 4070) - VR headsets Quest Pro (Jan 2024-present; Pico 4 March 2023 - March 2024; Rift s June 2020- present). Maps Afghanistan – Channel – Cold War Germany - Kola - Normandy 2 – Persian Gulf - Sinai - Syria - South Atlantic. NAM Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 As AMD 6900Xt owner, i can confirmed that Qcumber is right. There isnt option in OXRTK for foveated rendering However, there is fixed quad view foveated. I believed you get more fps particularly for powerful CPU like Amd x3d.
Werewolf_fs Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 (edited) AMD only supports foveated rendering under DX12, DCS is DX11.. That's why under OXRTK you don't have support, sorry. Edited August 25, 2024 by Werewolf_fs
TallyHoLaddies Posted August 26, 2024 Author Posted August 26, 2024 (edited) Guys, forgive me. I spent an hour pouring over the directions for Quad Views and OXRTK and I think I figured out my problem. I was confusing the requirements for OpenXR Foveated Rendering with Quad Views. I got it in my head that if I had the Quad Views API installed then I should see it in the OVRTK menu like I saw in other people's, when in reality as correctly pointed out by many of you that the built in Foveated doesn't work with AMD GPUs. This VR stuff is a real trip, but man is it worth it. Really appreciate the help from y'all! Maddaawg Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 To be clear, you mean OXRTK and not OVRTK? They both exist for different applications. Your title says OpenVR and I assume you mean OpenXR because DCS is native OpenXR but I think the Steam version is OpenVR. There are also some issues with scheduling on the Ryzen 9 7950x3D that Windows causes and use of the 3d cache. I'm on Intel right now and don't remember the fix but probably a tool like Process Lasso will restrict DCS to the correct cores that have the best 3D cache access. Ugh, yes you are correct, I meant OpenXR and not OpenVR, I corrected the topic. I'm not using Steam or SteamVR for DCS, but I think I got OpenVR stuck in my head because of Virtual Desktop and all the Steam references. After awhile things just start to merge. I am using Process Lasso for my 7950X3D and DCS, it works great! 1 hour ago, Qcumber said: Setting for VR is a very long trip. Be prepared for frequent tweaking. My experience over the last couple of years is that the DCS VR experience is getting better. But every update requires some retuning. Yeah, when I first tried DCS in VR with my Q3 I was like WHOA! Frankly I only did it because my Tobii while it works, just felt like it wasn't doing justice to the environment of DCS. It's great for MSFS2020, but not so much for these high fidelity cockpits in DCS. As for the VR, while the first time was super cool, it wasn't dialed in and as soon as I started tweaking things, that's when I felt like i was going backward and not forwards. After installing Virtual Desktop and getting this Quad Views thing finally sorted, DCS on my Q3 is looking amazing. I promise going forward I will pay closer attention to what I write so cut down on the confusion. I so appreciate y'all being so patient with me. 1 Ryzen 9 7950X3D 16 core 4.2Ghz, AsRock X670E Steel Legend, 64Gb DDR5-6600, MSI RX7900 XTX, 512Gb M2 SSD OS, MP600 4TB M2 SSD, x2 Gigabyte 32” MQ32QC, VKB STECS Mini Plus/ SEM/THQ/GSM/Gunfighter IV/MCE Ultimate/200mm Ext, WinWing Orion 2/18 Grip/16 Grip/PTO2, Quest 3.
