Purpose of "Start alignment" Jester command

I have not been able to figure out in which scenario the "Start alignment" Jester command would be used.

After engine start, Jester will automatically ask for alignment; it seems that that "Start alignment" command does not actually do anything before or after Jester has raised the question despite being acknowledged.

I supposed that the command might be used to force Jester to start alignment prior to internal power being available but this is not the case.

Any suggestions/ideas?

This command represents a Jester Wheel action that is only present in a niche case:
When you missed the alignment dialog twice, Jester will say something along the lines of "Okay, just let me know when you want to align" and then this command becomes available in the Wheel to trigger the dialog again. The bind presses this wheel command and only works when it's available. It is more meant to be used for Voice Attack users who want to map it to a phrase.

Idea: Would it be possible to repurpose this command to force Jester the start the alignment routine (what alignment do you want, etc.)? Three use cases come to mind:

  1. In-flight alignment.
  2. You want Jester to start alignment before the Jet is on internal power (possibly with the intent to realign on internal power later on).
  3. You want Jester to realign the INS in the last chance as was apparently common practice IRL.

The upcoming update already has a command to tell Jester to refine an existing alignment. And a future update will soon contain a way to redo an alignment from scratch as well.

Regarding the second point, if you align on external power you can severely damage the INS equipment when you cycle the generators to internal power, as you momentarily have to move them through the OFF position unfortunately. This is also why Jester asks if you are ready or still want to cycle generators around a bit. Only the heating phase can safely be executed at that point (which Jester starts without asking the moment the jet has power).
