Carbon715 Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 FCR Target Speed kCAS is affected by wind speed. Attached is a track, set up wind speed to show. The difference in CAS displayed + the 20ish kt headwind is equal to what should be the displayed CAS on the FCR screen. Also the closure kTAS is affected by wind speed as well. Shows closure but no closure realistically. Track was on Kola. This moment is only about a 2kt closure to target. HUD kCAS , FCR TGT kCAS, Closure kTAS, and Windspeed Circled. Actual target speed flying form. FCR TGT SPEED CAS Affected by Wind.trk
falconzx Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 (edited) I still don't understand how an aircraft so well modeled around pilot's needs has a radar that translates target speed into CAS. For intercepting slow aircraft? In combat it's quite tricky to read, when TAS was a lot better. Good old times. It's odd not having a setting to change it in CNTL All other fighters have TAS or Mach readings, that's the energy state in combat. Edited September 5, 2024 by falconzx

Well to be fair, closure rate is kTAS. kCAS is great for the intercept
