Bjarned Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 I had the same problem. DCS.exe would terminate during loading. The solution for me was to disable 1 core in windows: msconfig -> boot -> advanced options -> number of processors 15 (was 16).
Nazgûl Posted October 30, 2024 Author Posted October 30, 2024 (edited) Updating what I did this week. I ran the cleanup and then the slow repair of DCS again. Also, I uninstalled my VGA using DDU and reinstalled the drivers again. Nothing worked. On 10/21/2024 at 3:53 PM, Bjarned said: I had the same problem. DCS.exe would terminate during loading. Thanks for the suggestion. ps: mine has 20 processors. 19? Nazgûl Posted November 1, 2024 Author Posted November 1, 2024 Updating the information. On wednesday I tested inverting the positions of my memory sticks (sometimes this helps). I also updated DCS to the new version. I took the opportunity to reinstall the Supercarrier module to test it. The update seems to have improved, but it didn't solve the problem. The crashes during loading have decreased considerably. Good. I noticed that after cleaning the fxo and metashader2 folders, DCS runs smoothly. However, after closing it, if I try to run the DCS again, it gets all choked up, full of stuttering. My FPS gets stuck at 120. The first time tha I open the DCS it stays at 120 straight. From the 2nd time onwards it starts to fluctuate drastically, even stopping at the DCS home screen. It seems to me that the problem is in the PROCESSOR. You can hear it stop and then start doing the calculations again. The processor keeps stuttering. It even crashes a bit. The solution is to close DCS, clean the fxo and metashader2 folders again, but it doesn't always work the first time. Sometimes I have to clean these folders in more than one attempt. I'll let you know if there's anything new. Seeya folks! Akula Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) According to your log, your cores are parked. Try unparking your cores and see how that impacts you. You’ll need to Google how to do this. Akula Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Reading through this discussion. Here is what I would do if I were you. I would go back to the barebones basics. NO RIVA TUNER, NO MSI AFTERBURNER, NO KAPERSKY, NO OVGME OR MOD MANAGING SOFTWARE. To get rid of these programs 100% you will need to remove them using Revouninstaller. Its removes all traces of a program done to the registry. I use it all the time. Uninstall all of those apps and use Revouninstaller to uninstall DCS. Make sure to back up your HOTAS bindings, missions and liveries before uninstalling. restart windows and then shut down and start it up again to wipe everything out (overkill but at least this way you know you’re reset). Try another game and see how it runs. If everything looks good and runs as it should reinstall DCS but ONLY DCS and ONE JET, just one module. NOTHING ELSE! No maps, no mods, NOTHING. Set your system settings to get the graphics the way you want and then shut down DCS and to be safe, restart the computer (overkill but I would do it to guarantee the settings take full effect and the jet you installed is solidly installed). if you have no issues and can fly a mission, land and exit the game back into windows good for you. You have established a baseline. Now one by one, over the next few days, add a jet or map; JUST ONE AT A TIME! Restart and then test. If it goes well add another module or map. Try a mod and see how that goes but do it ONE AT A TIME. The goal is to test add, test, add, test, add. All that to isolate what is causing the issue. Lastly, DO NOT INSTALL SUPER CARRIER! We already know it’s causing issues so leave that for last. Doing it this way will isolate the cause and get you on the right path vs trying a bunch of stuff at the same time and not knowing what’s causing the problem. I have MSI afterburner and turn it off as well as HWINFO64 before playing DCS. Good luck. What I have to do sometimes is open it once. The first time sometimes it runs stuttering. So I close and reopen it again. The second time it has always run smoothly, even with the Supercarrier installed. So I'm going to do the following. I'm going to keep an eye on it. If it gets worse again, then I'll try to do what you said above. But one thing I'm going to do is research what you said about unparking the cores. Many thanks for the time you spent thinking and analyzing. In the Task Manager, I saw that both in the default and unparking versions, all cores (20) work during loading and 8 or 9 cores during flights. One thing I noticed is that sometimes, when there are small freezes, just press alt+tab and go to the browser window. DCS goes back to normal. I've read something about this in other topics as well. I've been flying for the past two days and it's been good. I haven't had any crashes and it's run smooth most of the time. Probably because of the latest update. Even with the Supercarrier, in multiplayer, looking at the carrier island, it's been running fine now. Akula Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Last week I disabled Hyperthreading in the BIOS and POOF! No more problems. Try it and see if that helps. You can re-enable them at any time so just do it as a test. If you have no issues at least you have this as a temporary fix until DCS gets their $hit together. I re-enabled it to test (no issues since lat update) but I might just keep it off as it still leaves me with 16 good cores and I'm not constantly apologizing to my friends for crashing in the middle of a mission lol. I don't trust DCS's multi thread support. It's getting better but it is not where it needs to be. Nazgûl Posted November 8, 2024 Author Posted November 8, 2024 (edited) Interestingly, when I turn on the PC, it starts with all cores unparked. However, after about 1 minute, they are parked again (10 of then during the flight) I tested turning off Hyperthreading. It only turned off the 8 logical threads, keeping the other 12. But in the end, it kept the 10 running during the flight (2 parked). What I noticed (but I will do more tests) is that, right after starting the PC (when it still has all 20 cores unparked) is the best time to turn on DCS. But I don't want to conclude this wrongly. I will continue to observe if this behavior is true. null Edited November 8, 2024 by Nazgûl LOMAC, FC, DCS, AV-8B, F/A-18, F-16, AH-64, Super Carrier, Persian Gulf, Syria, Kola. i7 12700K, 4070 Ti PNY XLR8 OC, 64 RAM DDR4 3200, B660M Aorus Pro, 1T NVMe Kingston Fury Renegade (DCS), 1T NVMe Kingston NV2 (OS), ASUS QHD 31,5" VG32VQ1B, VKB Gladiator Pro (metal gimbal) + Kosmosima grip, CH Pro Throttle, TIR 5.
Nazgûl Posted November 8, 2024 Author Posted November 8, 2024 The good thing is what I said before. It seems much more stable and with less crashes after the last update . I haven't had any crashes during flights either. So, despite all of the above, I'm not desperate . I'm able to fly the Supercarrier again and the crashes during loading windows have drastically decreased. 1 LOMAC, FC, DCS, AV-8B, F/A-18, F-16, AH-64, Super Carrier, Persian Gulf, Syria, Kola. i7 12700K, 4070 Ti PNY XLR8 OC, 64 RAM DDR4 3200, B660M Aorus Pro, 1T NVMe Kingston Fury Renegade (DCS), 1T NVMe Kingston NV2 (OS), ASUS QHD 31,5" VG32VQ1B, VKB Gladiator Pro (metal gimbal) + Kosmosima grip, CH Pro Throttle, TIR 5.
