MAXsenna Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 @sleighzy There are clearly access rights issues. He had Steam installed at a point. @xxcosmicggxx Look for this in the registry and just clean it out c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\ Also, find this file and delete it. You might as well rename "DCS World OpenBeta" to "DCS World" as Openbeta is gone, then start DCS. And you should have a clean non-beta folder. I have a feeling you have run DCS admin before... And/or installed it as admin. I even have a feeling you might have access issues with your Saved Games folder. Just now, xxcosmicggxx said: @sleighzyI've excluded every folder or file that I know of related to DCS and its install. I've also repaired multiple times. I have reviewed the ownership as well, they are all owned by me. It is via the launcher. I attempted to update via commandline, it comes up with an error. There is a log of the update. It is attached. autoupdate_log.txt 4.69 kB · 0 downloads Hmmmmm... This must be due to access rights. I see no other way. Google default Saved Games access rights. Maybe the computer/system account etc. have lost access.
xxcosmicggxx Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 I cleaned out the steam directory. I also renamed DCS and deleted the variant file, however when I launch it it launches in windowed mode with a different background. Currently for the access rights, it looks very similar to the ones in the screenshot in your reply, should SYSTEM be the owner? Currently my account is the owner. That's correct. What do mean with background? The default Caucasus? All settings are completely wiped, and you have backup in the old one. But, did DCS start now? What version? xxcosmicggxx Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 I changed and restarted, it saved. xxcosmicggxx Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 Repairs are successful, they don't do anything however, updates fail 100% of the time with errors and logs. Can you delete? If you run the updater as admin, does it work? If it updates as admin. Force the permissions/inherit on all files and sub folders from the Eagle Dynamics folder. Something got wonky somewhere.
xxcosmicggxx Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 Well when I attempt to delete the file, it states that it's open in another program. I don't have it open currently so I'll try to see what is open. Currently nothing is open related to DCS, I still can't delete it, not sure what's going on. 1 Modules Owned: F-4E, F/A-18C, F-16C, F-14A/B, AJS-37, AH-64D, A-10C II, A-10A, F-15C, Su-27, Marianas, MiG-21, P-51, Supercarrier, Su-33, UH-1H, AV-8B, Persian Gulf Map Computer Specifications: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 | VKB Gladiator NXT, TWCS Throttle
xxcosmicggxx Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 Everyone, thank you for all help and assistance, it is greatly appreciated, however it seems that this issue is not going to stop even if I keep trying to fix it. I've decided that the easiest way to (hopefully) fix this is to just reinstall DCS. Once again, thank you everyone for the help. 1 Modules Owned: F-4E, F/A-18C, F-16C, F-14A/B, AJS-37, AH-64D, A-10C II, A-10A, F-15C, Su-27, Marianas, MiG-21, P-51, Supercarrier, Su-33, UH-1H, AV-8B, Persian Gulf Map Computer Specifications: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 | VKB Gladiator NXT, TWCS Throttle

There is probably a lock file somewhere... Let's hope you don't run into more problems. Remember you can get your settings and controller settings from the old Saved Games folder. Cheers! Steam uses the same Saved Games folder as Standalone, and again clearly Standalone has been installed at some point, because DCS World OpenBeta is the default Standalone OpenBeta installation folder. Usually under C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics. My default folder in Steam for the saved games used to be DCS World OpenBeta, then at some point in the last year or so it changed to DCS and dropped the OpenBeta part, the install directory is just DCSWorld now. Least it's sorted now that at some point they have had both installed and explains why they were using the DCS Updater 1
