This kind of hurts to hear. It enriches so much a sortie, especially in co-op. Some situations with weather ends up generating hilarious outcomes. (I got yelled at because I made the mission and the tanker altitude ended up in the soup . Worth it.) To think players are omitting this kind of experience either alone or with friend is kind of saddening. I'm working on a reference points AAR tutorial-lite 'series' with 2D in mind because of some noise around AAR in DCS. You just gave me another reason to push this task up in priority thinking the reason we don't have new tankers is because people don't want or can't engage in AAR. I had to vent, because I enjoy a lot of AAR and know how many problems it has in DCS to the point of wanting an overhaul asap. I know it won't happen soon, but the state seems like just 'being left behind'. Fair skies 1
Tom P Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 Yeah my whole group does AAR, and do a "qualification" just to get some extra reps and practice in so we're good for missions. This is supposed to be the premier aviation combat sim and guess what is a huge part of military aviation.... the tankers. Can't imagine being the person whose supposed to drop a bomb on the X at a certain TOT but can't do it because they were bingo and went back to base instead of a tanker track. 2

One thing I will say though, at the moment tankers in DCS only support a single refuelling type exclusively (which is why the KC-135RT w/ MPRS only supports probe and drogue, but not the boom). It's not the only limitation but this one in particular is relevant to the KC-10 as the KC-10 supports both flying boom and probe and drogue without modification. If this limitation isn't resolved, this will take away some of the utility of the KC-10 (unless you have 2 duplicate aircraft in the unit list and make missions with 2 tankers to support both refuelling methods). This is key...we need the tanker able to do both types of refueling, as in real life. If we have a mixed bag of USAF and USN/USMC aircraft, we are forced to have two different AAR tankers. 3 The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. ============================= AMD 9950X3D CPU, 96Gb RAM// NVIDIA 5090 // SSD only // VKB STECS Mini+ Throttle / TM Warthog FCS / MFG Rudder Pedals / Physical Cockpit // TrackIR or VR// Win11 Pro 64bit //
Tom P Posted Saturday at 06:06 PM Author Posted Saturday at 06:06 PM If that's not possible at least give the mission makers an option to choose the type. 1
