hiltonbomber Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 Hey all, I'm just after some advice/guidance on some settings for VR, particularly using the BsB headset. I'm running an i9 10850K 5.2GHz CPU 32GB DDR4 3200MHz ASUS GeForce RTX 3080 10GB card. I'm currently running it set at 90hz refresh rate and getting about 45fpm. The visuals are amazing and I'm aware the GPU is a bit light on for the BsB, however just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on settings that I can use to improve both visual quality and fpm. Oh, using steamVR and Open XR. I love VR and this is a huge step up from my G2 both in terms of form-factor and visual quality. I can actually ID aircraft on their shape now without labels. Thanks all. Look forward to the advice. BTW, only had the headset 2 days, so as far as a review is concerned, it's awesome, but give me a few more days/weeks to get comfortable with it. Cheers legends.
Habu_69 Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 I am BsB user 8 months and have really enjoyed form factor and display res, but I have RTX 4090. I think you would find another 32 GB RAM would be a big boost. Try limiting FPS to 75, but you are probably not exceeding that anyway. Turn off all anti-aliasing, upscaling and shadows. Set textures, water, clouds to medium. Cockpit displays to 512. Clutter, forest, Scenery to low/medium. Smoke and Aniso to 0. Start with these quality settings and experiment with gradual increases. Good luck. 2

Good luck. Thanks for your response. I will try those settings tomorrow. When I first loaded up I was getting 90FPS, but then it's dropped since and I'm not sure what I did. The only difference being the first run was just a "quick flight" start up and fly around scenario, and the next time when FPS dropped significantly, I was doing a single player campaign. So the additional content may be an issue so yeah, additional RAM will help I expect. A 4090 and more ram is on my radar, but the cash is a problem at the moment, but yeah, definitely want to upgrade the PC. Thanks again. I'll reply with my results. Do love the headset though.
Maddaawg Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 I think you're going to want a CPU upgrade before a GPU. I'm on a Q3 and 3080ti with a i9-10900k and am CPU bound. I've had to seriously lower my settings and I'm pushing less pixels. Upgrading the GPU to a $2k GPU that will get you some improvement but no where near the 2 grand's worth. A CPU like an AMD 7800x3d, MB and 64GB ram will be half the cost for much better performance. Use the in game performance monitor and get see for yourself. I was set on a GPU upgrade too alongside a Pimax, but realized while looking at the monitors and asking questions here, my CPU is just old and needed to be the equal of my GPU. 1 Meta Quest 3, Intel i9-10900K, EVGA 3080Ti FTW3, Corsair 64GB DDR4 3200, ASUS ROG Strix z-490-E Gaming, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M2 NVME Windows 11 Drive, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB M2 NVME Game Drive
