Mosencev Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) I tried to play on an Intel 10400 and I didn't like the lack of smoothness when moving the camera in the cockpit. It twitches a little when you move your head to the side or forward. Although 60-72 fps depending on the settings. It's only normal in the Su-25T at the lowest settings. I suspected that my processor would not be enough. What would you recommend? I'm thinking about 5700x3d because 12700k will be 20% more expensive for me. And 5900x is 65% more expensive than 5700x3d. (I'm already counting with the motherboard.) I hope 5700x3d is enough for me. I just want to see the numbers on the cockpit instruments and for the camera to move smoothly. Maddaawg Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 How do you get 40GB DDR4? If running odd number of sticks, pull the extra non-matching stick out. Does the issue resolve itself if you lower the settings, for example using the VR preset? You may want to wait for the 9800x3D to be fully in stock and then pick up a 7800x3D which is also AM5 and allows you an upgrade path or at a minimum brings down the cost of a 5800x3D 1 Meta Quest 3, Intel i9-10900K, EVGA 3080Ti FTW3, Corsair 64GB DDR4 3200, ASUS ROG Strix z-490-E Gaming, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M2 NVME Windows 11 Drive, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB M2 NVME Game Drive

Yes, I tried use only 32 GB. VR preset have delays (twitching) when moving the head. Only SU-25T have smoothness of movement on minimal preset. Mi-24 always have delays (twitching). I was thinking about switching to socket, but my DDR4 (32 GB) is new. Then I'll have to sell it for AM5. And I decided not to buy such an expensive processor. Now I think 5800x3D or 12700k will be enough for 4070s.
Maddaawg Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 That adds up to 48? Pull the 32, make sure the 8's are in slots 1,3 or 2,4 and try it again. Your buying a motherboard anyway and running odd unmatched dimms. The results will not be good on any upgrade with unmatched, odd count sticks. You could look for a deal on a 10900 or 10700, they'll out perform your lower end i5 and save you some cash. Then get a matching set of ram. People usually buy them in pairs for a good reason. Though my system is CPU bound with a 10900k, I'm not getting stuttering but do play on low settings. AM5 is still the best option, but you'll sacrifice your unmatched dimms anyway but have a much better upgrade patch. Black Friday may have some deals with combos of board/CPU/memory. Meta Quest 3, Intel i9-10900K, EVGA 3080Ti FTW3, Corsair 64GB DDR4 3200, ASUS ROG Strix z-490-E Gaming, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M2 NVME Windows 11 Drive, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB M2 NVME Game Drive
Joch1955 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I have a 5800x3d, it is still one of the best performing gaming CPU and performance in DCS is great. Performance of the 5700x3d is only slightly inferior. 5700x3d chips are essentially the same as the 5800x3d. If you already have a AM4 board, it is a no brainer upgrade. if you have to buy a new MB though, I would look at the new AM5 boards and the newer x3d CPUs. The AM4 socket is dead.

Price new 10900k like price new 5700x3d + new mb AM4. I try 32GB only. And just have 8 + 8 after ubdate. So I try 32 + 8 too.

"the newer x3d CPUs" Is it 7800X3D for exemple? But that price next level then 5700x3d. Are you think 5700x3d not enoughf for 4070s?

However, AM4 5800x3d will be a better choice overall, especially a used one with a great price. You will have the best AM4 CPU that will last several years without needing an update. It even pairs wonderfully with 4090, for example. Later, you will be able to update to AM6. Or AM5 at a much more reasonable price. Also, please try 32Gb only on slot 2 (second from CPU). Using different RAM sticks only makes things worse. Microstutters can usually be traced to this. 5800х3d, 3200Mhz 32Gb RAM, 7900 XTX, B550 Aorus Elite V2, Thermaltake 850W, BeQuiet 802, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420. Winwing Orion 2 HOTAS, F-16EX Stick, F-15EX Throttles. Saitek Rudder Pedals. TrackIR 5. Joy extension. Meta Quest 3.

And it seems to be better by 7-10%. try 32Gb only on slot 2 - I try now. Not diferent. I wont to try wifi 5 instead of USB cabel. Becose when I try mooving head in VR, on my PC screen all good. But i use USB 3.1 and not cheap cable.
Joch1955 Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 The performance difference between a 5800x3d and 5700x3d in DCS will be small and the price can’t be beat. Here is a very good overview in Tom’s Hardware. Performance of both CPUs is exceptional in MS flight simulator. Performance in DCS should be similar: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/amd-ryzen-7-5700x3d-cpu-review/2
