tbodrero Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I have this problem that for some reason my Shkval movement to the left or right stops working, the up down works fine. Any ideas? Am I pushing some kind of button accidently that is causing this? I'm new to the game so I'm learning. Thanks for your help in advance.
slug88 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Sounds like a joystick problem. AFAIK there is no function in the game that will inhibit the Shkval from scanning left or right. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Except for the obvious limits to how far left-right it can scan. tbodrero, there are some lines in the Skhval window that track it's range of motion. I assume you have confirmed that this happens within the permitted distances? If yes, I agree, it sounds like something is broken in your joystick or relevant driver - if you are using the joystick hatswitch to move the seeker. If you use the keyboard, are you using a Saitek G15 or similar? tbodrero Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Thanks for your comments, unfortunately it happens if I use the keyboard as well and it happens if the seeker is right in front of me.

JG14_Smil Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 does it start working when you reset it? (reset button is on the left side)
tbodrero Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Screenshot attached Here is a screenshot of what my screen looks like when I can only go up and down.
Panzertard Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Ah, it's so easy to assume that you were in the the cockpit looking out - and not in that mode you just showed us there. And I have experience with the "sim mode" only - not the mode you run in - so I hope I tell you the correct things here. Well - you could be reaching the gimbal limit as Ethereal suggested, the only way to confirm that is to look from the cockpit. Sometime the Shkval will try to "keep up with you movements" and start auto-slewing by itself. And quite often, if you keep moving around - it will fail to maintain updating properly - and reaching the gimbal limit "because it want to try to keep moving". In those situations you may experience just what you are telling us. To reset the Shkval press BACKSPACE. Use O again to lock somewhere in front of you, then slew - finally press ENTER again to lock onto that target (or re-fix on a position on the ground). If you are locked onto a target then you will need to keep ENTER pressed at the same time as you press the slew keys. If it starts to drift away try lock onto the ground to let the targeting computer know about your current movement (pressing lock sends a new "maintain desired fix on this spot" to the targetting compouter and it will recalculate you movements again). If it fails to do it properly - reset with BCAKSPACE once again and start over. As a final advice - if you fly from within the cockpit you will get all these "hints" from the HUD since it will display a "rectangle with a circle" and a big X if you reach gimbal limits. Those hints are not visible from the view you are playing from. :) The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
tbodrero Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Panzertard thank for all your help. So I changed to cocpit view and did all the things you suggested, still the same problem. I have attached another screenshot.
Panzertard Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 By the looks of it you've hit the right side gimbal limit. You need to "unbreak". If you're not able to move to the left side it's because the targetting computer is compesating for a movement which is no longer present - it gets confused if you change speed / attitude of your chopper. (quite normal when you manouver your chopper). There's two methods for updateing the targeting computer "movement compensation": 1. Lock to whatever it is pointing at (ground) - then start slewing to the left (in the situation above you're "stuck" to the right side). This might not always work if your chopper is on the move. 2. Reset the Shkval and targetting system BACKSPACE - do the procedure with O and ENTER, then slew. If you are at a hover / constant moving in one direction - and (your chopper) have no direction or speed changes takes place you will be able to slew normally. If it still "want to go out to one side" and stays there - then you must check all your possible key / mouse / stick combinations - and look for a error or double booked key/axis assignement. Let's hear your next results :) The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
tbodrero Posted June 20, 2009 Author Posted June 20, 2009 Your procedure corrects my problem most of the time but some times I have to turn off the Shkval and turn it back on but after I do that evedrything is fine. Thanks to all of you for patience and kindness in responding to my inquiry, I can now enjoy the game!
hyperfighter Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 just wanted to say i have the same problem with the shkval slew, so since i use track ir and x52 i have 1 pov extra, i actually have 2 pov buttons programmed for the slew...if i get this prob(wich is not due to 1 pov failing at all, i just use the other pov, usually the slew instanly works again then, when u use the original pov again this works again too...i know weird, i think its a bug in dcs
