My DCS is a standalone version, not the Steam version.  I have just purchased and installed the Meta Virtual Desktop today.  If I am in the VD and try to launch DCS in VR then what I see in the headset is a virtual room with a computer screen on the desk, and DCS playing and fully interactive on that computer screen.  I'm not getting the VR experience.

Alternatively if I shut down the Meta VD and try to launch DCS in VR with Open XR toolkit running and the Occulus tray tool running, I get through to the VR experience, but it looks like it launches Steam VR at the same time and I end up with a stuttering mess.

I'm hoping someone might know of a fix for this.  As a side note launching IL2GB BoX in VR through Meta VD gives me no issues.

Thanks Qcumber and thanks VRFGiPJP.  Changing to VDXR from AUTOMATIC for the OpenXR Runtime option seems to have done the trick.  I don't know what OTT or OXRTK is, or where to find them.  I can now start DCS either through VD or via the AirLink cable process. I don't think it is important that DCS and IL2 don't show up under the list of Occulus games in VD, but may be they should at least appear there.

Now I'm trying to assess whether DCS looks or runs better in terms of clarity and FPS under either VD or through the Link cable.

Overall they are very similar but to compare them properly you need to make sure you are comparing like for like. For example Godlike gives you supersampling to about 3300 pixels. Link cable/air gives you a max output of about 2700. You can use Oculus tray tool to set the SS to about 1.5 to give you a similar meta resolution to VD godlike. If you do this though I would advise setting the supersampling in the meta app to x1 so that you can more easily keep track of the scaling. I hope this all makes sense.

With VD you will need to play with the codec a bit and optional mise the Bitrate to keep your latencies down.

Switching to vds was a game changer for me. Set PD to 1.0 in dcs and godlike in VDS

huge clarity improvements and fps increase.

bought a good size battery and am now wireless.

i did notice dcs looses link occasionally if i use AV1 codec. Hevc 10 works for me with no issues

hope you experience the same

Is this compared to meta link? As per my post above VD is a great app but you cannot directly compare the two unless you have used the same super sampling etc.

If you have not already done so, try using meta link with open XR toolkit SS to 1.5 and bitrate to 960 mbps.

I use both on a regular basis and at the moment I think that meta has the slight edge. Next month might flip back to VD. The difference is that close.
