Tony Trout Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 (edited) I'm new here and just getting started in flight simming. But, I need advice. First of all, I'm mildly disabled with Cerebral Palsy & Hydrocephalus but I'm also blessed because I am able to play several different instruments and I'm a singer, as well. However, not to stray too far off-topic: I'm wanting an "Airwolf"-type of flight sim setup (Bell 222A/B). I grew up watching that show and I have all four seasons on DVD (even though I don't watch the fourth season because it's so bad)!! I noticed that the MicroHelis shop has one thing I need - the collective (or throttle) and I'm wondering where would be the best place to look for the cyclic control that would match closest to a Bell 222A/B helicopter? If anybody could give me just a little bit of a push and some advice, I promise that it would be a big, big help!!! I've included a photo of the Bell 222A from the show, itself, a photo of Andrew Probert sitting on the flatbed trailer that contains what we fans called, "The Stage Lady", which Jan & Ernie (and later Jean Bruce Scott) would use as the actual helicopter and a side shot of the "cyclic" stick which, I'm betting, comes from the "Airwolf Guidebook" from '84. Thanks a bunch! God Bless, Tony Trout Edited December 4, 2024 by Tony Trout
Mr_Burns Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Hey mate, it seems to resemble the Huey stick from that angle, there is a Huey one here: https://www.maxflightstick.com/products/huey-2022
Tony Trout Posted December 6, 2024 Author Posted December 6, 2024 Thanks for that link, friend. Unfortunately, since I'm disabled and on a fixed income, I don't have that amount of money that they're wanting.
Mr_Burns Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 (edited) No I couldn’t, but that’s the top end, you might be able to find cheaper ones, maybe search a few pictures and see if the Huey is close enough, with the Huey DCS module there might be a DIY Huey page on this forum and the owner might help. There are others which is just the stick that plugs into a generic base, not sure I have ever seen one for Huey if that’s the closest stick. BTW, my son works at a Charity Home for Cerebral Palsy, I think they must have very serious condition as he has to bath, dress and feed his residents, they take them out to the beach and for ice cream and coffee depending on the weather but they certainly can’t play flight sims, if I come across anything than needs 3D printing and you have a certain joystick base I can try and help, I haven’t used my printer for anything yet as i am awaiting the space to make a fume extractor, didn’t realise how toxic resin printers are! Here is another photo of what the cyclic looks like in the Bell 222A/B (the hand you see in the photo is the hand of the owner of the Bell 222B that was used as "Airwolf" and his name was Peter McKernan and he owned "JetCopters, Inc." which is where the hangar scenes in "Airwolf" - named "Santini Air" in the show - was filmed): Take Care, Tony T. P.S. I'm afflicted with "mild" Cerebral Palsy (thank You, God) and there are different levels from "mild" to "severe" (the last is where the afflicted is wheelchair-bound and usually doesn't have the ability to talk and walk. Mr_Burns Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 I found this, it seems the UH-1 has a different part number to the 222 but its very similar, I think they confused it on Reddit so whilst its less likely to get an affordable 222 replica as there are probably fewer flight simmers (possibly only MSFS model it) DCS will have brought a lot more simmers for Huey but its probably more popular anyway due to its Vietnam heroism:
