Countermeasures: 2 odd design features of the Ka50?

Unless I'm mistaken -- it's been known to happen -- it appears that there is no "hands-on" countermeasures deployment button on either the collective or the cyclic (although I've mapped one to mine in the sim). And there is no apparent automatic deployment of countermeasures when a threat is detected, surely something within the technical capabilities of this system.

 

Isn't this a bit odd, especially in such a hi-tech platform? Do r/l Black Shark pilots really take their hands off the cyclic and reach up to push a button to initiate CM deployment in the heat of battle and when attempting to fly defensively, under threat?

Hi-tech!? There are no systems in the chopper able to detect threats where the relevant counteraction is to release flares other than the pilots eyes/intuition..

 

I believe it's supposed to be set up to an appropriate program according to the expected threat and then used preemptively during the attack.. That is, you push the "start popping flares" button and get on with it.

If you've planned your attack and CM's nicely, you should'nt have to press it again..

 

ps. I also have that button mapped to my cyclic though :P

If you're trying to compare an-electronics packed, super-automated fighter jet to an 80's chopper ... yeah. Way too much ;)

 

Also falcon doesn't reward you for pre-emptive counter-measures use, which is un-realistic (who would've though! Falcon! Unrealistic! ;) ). Not to mention the rather un-realistic resistance of heaters to flares.

 

But I digress - use your CM's pre-emptively, not reactively. You can't react to about 60% of what's around you anyway because you can't SEE it out of the cockpit.
