Notty Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Hi all, sorry if these are idiot questions. I am in early days with the sim just getting to grips with the flying it and the basic systems - we're talking haven't worked out how to fire the cannon yet! Firstly, really basic stuff. Using the mouse to rotate the rotary knobs e.g HSI course and heading bugs? Moving the mouse over the knob yields the green rotary icon, but nothing I can do with my mouse will make them move (clicking, dragging, scrolling). I've tried manually mapping the mouse buttons but no avail. I don't want to use the key commands as they seem cumbersome. How do I use my mouse to move these controls - or can't I? Secondly trimming. I know there are massive threads on this, but as a commercial pilot (albeit fixed wing) I think I do understand the concept of what we're trying to acheive. I am using a FF2 stick, and can generally fly around and hover quite well without it, but everything i read tells me I need to trim. Ok, so I start to try it, but I set a cyclic pitch attitude, hold it, and press and release "T"... and the thing then pitches up or down lots of degrees, knocking my little craft out of its formerly untrimmed but relatively stable state. I know i am supposed to reverse the axes for the FF2, and I have checked the box in the config to do this. Trimming at the moment seems like the sort of help I don't need. Any ideas from you experienced Hokum drivers? I love this sim and it's becoming an obsession so if I can't move forward on these issues I will probably go insane! Thanks in advance for any advice, Notty
Panzertard Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) - Rotary knobs: Left click or right click - knob goes left or right (or up / down). Ex: Radio knob - or the targeting computer knob. - Rotary wheel knobs: Hold left mouse botton on them - move left/right. Ex: HUD brightnes or Shkval contrast/brightnes. Some knobs/switches may have no function. I think I've seen the same thing with the HSI as you mentioned. Trimming - the AP channels behaves more like a damper. You Press and hold the Trim until you have reached the attitude you want - then release it. The AP damper will the try to maintain that attitude. (Hint: It can be smart to assign the Trim to a accesible trigger on your joystick - you have to use it often/almost always). As for more technical discussions about the AP/trimming - there's a few articles here on the forum if you search a little bit :) Edited June 30, 2009 by Panzertard The mind is like a parachute. narfnarf Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Ok, so I start to try it, but I set a cyclic pitch attitude, hold it, and press and release "T" Just try another order: Press and hold "T", change the attitude of the Chopper as desired, release "T" (Additionally I have to center the stick since I don't have FFB). Works perfectly for me...
Notty Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 Thank you for your help gentlemen I will try these techniques when next able. Notty
hilikusopus Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Panzertard: "Rotary wheel knobs: Hold left mouse botton on them - move left/right. Ex: HUD brightnes or Shkval contrast/brightnes." Thanks! I've been using my mouse's scroll button for these knobs, which doubles as the zoom in/out function as well, so you can image how frustrating and unproductive that could be!
