Biggest takeaway for me was them saying the image quality/clarity isn't much noticeably better than the OG or light. WTF?! I thought the various iterations of the Super were supposed to be 'retina level'. Was the test model being run with big down sampling? They don't say.

Lots of people in the comments saying they have or will cancel their pre-order. I'm considering the same, with my mind also on getting that done before Pimax folds.

It's kind of becoming clear that Pimax is running on pre-order money at this point and, if true, it ain't good.

Not to forget to mention...this is just three weeks before final-prod units start shipping to customers and they're showcasing a flakey pre-prod at CES?!

The headset is just not done, which is typical for Pimax. They announce the product and open pre-orders and ship the product before it is done. Then you have to hope that there are no hardware bugs and that it's only the software that is not done, and that they mostly fix it before moving on to the next new headset.

So if someone cancels the pre-order over this, then in my opinion, they were already delusional about how Pimax operates.

Frankly, a ton of people doing pre-orders, early access or such, seem to think that their fealty will make the company reward them, but it's as delusional as a beaten up woman who thinks that the beatings will stop by making sure that they guy is not worried about her leaving him. But the guy can do what he wants if there are no negative consequences. So if you want to use finished products, then only buy the product once the company shows that the product is finished. That way you condition companies to finish the product before selling it.

It's not "fealty", it's a considered estimation that there's a point at which a company *should* realise that if it doesn't markedly change it will go under. Plus other calculations...

a) First units are more likely to be of a better quality, if the company is playing that game (and it's been suggested Pimax did just that, as OG Crystals had none of the major issues the CLs did).
b) Not waiting and thus avoiding short supply that appears later.
c) Unit can be returned within two weeks for a full refund.

An additional calculation now is will there be a 'run on the bank' that'll push Pimax under? The 'insanity' of announcing the Dream isn't so insane if Pimax is desperately trying to raise money on pre-orders. In that case it makes absolute sense but it would indicate just how close Pimax is to the edge. Unfortunately there's no ATM in view at which to check the queue. Lol.

Where is this news that Pimax is going or about to go under coming from? This is the first time I’m reading about this.

I’m personally not a fan of their “flooding the zone” tactics, and would much prefer that they focus and perfect their established products and customer service which flat out lies.

They need to focus their efforts. Over the years, they've had immense scope-creep on products and features where not an insignificant amount of their planned things either come late, not as it originally advertised, or not at all. Being spread thin also leads to QC issues which further adds to negative public image of the company.

Pimax and their products have a ton of potential in such a niche market, it theirs for them to mess it up. Hope they're able to focus and deliver a great product in a space where there is definitely a wand and need.

Im not buying any Pimax products anymore. The software is wonky, the support is absolutely garbage and theres way to many problems with such an expensive product.

Personally i dont see the improvements they promised and its has become a no-go.

Noticed that video and was quite anxious until I saw this one. Suggest to hold a bit longer until more solid review released. I wish Pimax could eventually make this Super right so we have one more great product to choose.
Here is another source of 1st impression on Super and seems quite positive, from TallyMouse a YTber.

Im not taking one persons report as gospel on the super, particularly when they heavily subsidise their life with income from Youtube clicks, which work both ways good or bad. There are also comments below in the video regarding the PC units they are using only had in previous shows a 4070 and using laptops.
"Wasn’t the warping just due to low frame rate using under powered PC? Maybe they are still using the same 4070 pc demoed pimax light."

Perhaps they can clarify the PC/Laptop utilisation for the show?

Regards

Thanks. Just saw both replay. No reason to cancel my order yet. But will keen to see other full reviews without OEM aside.
