scommander2 Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Hi, My understanding is about Intel E-cores are for processing the lightweight/daemon processes that running in the backend. and the E-cores are not meant for the heavy task and high performance. Question: the latest Intel CPUs have more E-cores than P-Cores (no-hyperthreading), what are the impacts to the DCS MT performance? Thanks. The_Nephilim Posted January 11 Posted January 11 (edited) Well run DCS and most likely if you are on Win11 it is running on the Ecores. I would imagine it would work but as you see the ECores are not made for this kind of work. while it may work but it will be limited and probally when a Demanding scene pops in they will choke.. have a look at my thread here and see what I found out about win 10 and win 11 and how DCS uses the Ecores.. I would suggest installing Process Lasso and put all the other Processes on your ECores manually and put DCS and your other games on the PCores.. it is really easy and effective: Edited January 11 by The_Nephilim 2 Intel Ultra 265K 5.5GHZ / Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Elite / MSI 4070Ti Ventus 12GB / SoundBlaster Z SoundCard / Corsair Vengance 64GB Ram / HP Reverb G2 / Samsung 980 Pro 2TB Games / Crucial 512GB M.2 Win 11 Pro 21H2 / ButtKicker Gamer / CoolerMaster TD500 Mesh V2 PC Case

Thanks for the reply and sharing. Saying 6 or 8 P-Cores (no-hyperthreading) for DCS, is it good enough for the DCS task load (meaning no FPS drop or whatever)? The_Nephilim Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Well I hear so much about users with better gear then myself having major stutters and all kinds of Problems. I have had a VR Headset since 2016 or so and I have never had much issues with DCS. now even today there is an occasional blip on the |DCS Frame counter and a slight stutter but I see that in all my other games too even tho they are not as demanding as DCS I think it is just inherint with PC Programming and similar.. I use 8 cores for my Game EXE's and all I put all the other Processes on the 4 E-Cores I have and do not have any major issues. I play mostly MP and I have played on some big servers with like 50-60 people in it at a time. now I am not saying the game runs perfect but it is as near as perfect as it can be with VR and a Program as complex as DCS is.. I do use Process Lasso and Fixed Foveated Rendering which helps tremendously.. That other thread was when I 1st did a reinstall of Win 11 after secure erasing my Drive and install a clean copy of Win 11 23H2.. so what you saw there and it is a bit wierd but while they claim Win 11 does real good at keeping the more complex Proceeses off the Ecores you can clearly see that is not the case.. What I have found out the Win11 can do a better job then win 10 but it is more like a general usage and not 100% Perfect at doing it. I have also read a program could code some stuff in it to better help Win 11 do this job better. but I guess they have not yet did that with DCS, and to be fair I doubt many other compnaies have done it either as I get similar Stuttering in MechWarrior 5 especailly when the scene gets busy.. To be honest DCS runs pretty good for me and in VR you just need to head the rule whatever Hz rate you run you need to keep the Frametimes under a set amount depending on the Hz rate, ie if you run at 60Hz the Frametime you need to keep at or under and under more is better is 16.6ms. as long as you can maintain under that @60hz you should have relatively smooth Gameplay.. I am not saying it will be smooth forever but you may have those minor blips when say someone leaves the server or something big happens. But I have monitored my DCS FPS Counter and most times it is a flatline with a very minor blip downwqard for a milisecond but not some long drawn out stutter so basically my game is stutter free.. Now I dont know if I just managed to get the settings just right or lucky in the order but I really have few issues.. sorry to go on but I feel most other users could have similar results but there can be so many variables it sometimes is hard to pin down.. oh and I do use HT it seems to help sometimes but it is not mandatory you would need to experiment for yourself..
