HIGHLANDSPRING Posted March 23 Posted March 23 For anyone that’s successfully complete this mission I’d appreciate some strategy advice since I’ve failed to make it home three times now Please hide your feedback to prevent spoilers for those that haven’t tried it yet - thanks!
Solution Grundar Posted March 24 Solution Posted March 24 Spoiler Honestly? Stay High despite what the meteorological update tells you. When it tells you that visible ceiling is only 6000 feet, continue your climb to 14000 feet or you will find yourself getting mauled by Fw-190's that are patrolling nearby. The cloud cover also helps with avoiding flak. On the run in to the target, descend altitude rather rapidly - and fairly close so you erupt out of the cloud close to the target and at very high speed. This way you can get the recon and be well ahead of the flak. On my egress I used cloud cover again and ascended to 14000 feet again, dropping down once I get over the channel. 5
Maulet Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I just went out of fuel arriving at target area. I was flying nearly full speed all the time. Is there a fuel tank switch for a secondary tank or so? I had no time to react before hard landing in enemy territory, lol
Grundar Posted May 6 Posted May 6 The fuel switches for the Mossie are located behind the pilot and navigator seats, I find it easier to just switch to the navigator seat, look behind me and move the fuel cocks from there. I can't remember if this mission has Wing tanks or not, but you can switch between main and auxillary tanks via that action. Also enroute use fuel conservation methods; stay trimmed, use lower RPM when cruising/at altitude and keep boost to a reasonable level such as +7 or +8. This allowed fuel conservation on the ingress (and egress) which in turn gave me fuel reserves in case I need power rapidly For this particular mission I just stayed up high because 1) I spent the energy to get up there as part of the mission parameters and 2)for speed I could trade off that altitude energy for speed. The Mossie gains speed very quickly once you get her nose down.
