Blackbahia Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Hello everyone, I opened this post because I noticed some minor errors in the Germany CW Map. However, these are not critical The letter "ß": The German letter "ß" is read as “B” by non-German speakers, but means the same as a double "S"’. For example the city of "Gießen" (N 50°35.0864', E 08°40.2286') can therefore also be spelt "Giessen", but not "Gieben". Also the Radar Station on "Großer Feldberg". Groß mean big or large, but grob mean rough or crude. the famous ä, ö and ü: The letters can alternatively be written like this ä - ae, ö - oe, ü - ue. So the town of "Köthen"(N 51°43.1335', E 11°57.6548') can also be spelt "Koethen". It is currently called "Kothen" on the map and that sounds like a form of <profanity>ting. nullnull 7
Blackbahia Posted April 18 Author Posted April 18 Lake Edersee (N 51°10.9327', E 09°03.6587') is a reservoir and, at 27 kilometres long, one of the largest in Germany. But the dam is missing on the map. This lake was heavily contestedduring World War 2. The dam was blown up during "Operation Chastise" on 17 May 1943. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Chastise Maybe this can be modelled in the map to make the map more interesting for WWII missions as well.null Second picture from:Von Bundesarchiv, Bild 183-C0212-0043-012 / CC-BY-SA 3.0, CC BY-SA 3.0 de, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=5432683 5
Shamir_Triad Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Hello, thanks for the great work Ugra-Media. In my screenshot you can see that the flow is a bit wrong. I just keep getting lost, it's only at this point. I also found no evidence that the course of the river has been changed there in the last 40-50 years, perhaps this could be corrected in phase 2 or 3... https://maps.app.goo.gl/dCHgod6WCR4DqAibA . EagleA25 Posted April 18 Posted April 18 (edited) No criticism meant here, please! But, a small error I saw was the border set to the east of the Fulda Area. The H Radio GDR 02 is the Wasserkuppe Early Warning Radar Station (?); in the Map, it is located on the east side of the border aka Der Todesstreifen (Death-strip). Wasserkuppe, part of the RÖHN mountain area, and it was definitely part of West Germany! I used to fly Gliders there in my youth! Also, during my time in the Bundeswehr, I visited it once or twice during wintertimes to train there Edited April 23 by EagleA25 2

EagleA25 Posted April 18 Posted April 18 (edited) 38 minutes ago, Blackbahia said: I found a Radarstation on the Wasserkuppe:nullnullnull Correct, @Blackbahia; this is H Radar GDR 02 which I mentioned in my description early as the Wasserkuppe. GDR stands for German Democratic Republic, AKA East Germany. The Red Line to its left represents the border line. But, in real life, this border is wrong, it should be a lot further to the east. The Wasserkuppe was and has always been part of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), aka West Germany, Edited April 18 by EagleA25

This Radar Station is WEST of the Boderline, so its a WEST german Radar Stationnull. The location is near Poppenhausen on the Wasserkuppe. I set a 117D EW for my mission on this location. But you're right with the non correct Boder. FRG25 is on this map in east germany! 1 1
EagleA25 Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Thanks Blackbahia, but the Radar Station you found is nonexistent in RL. Some things just don't add up.. 1
sith1144 Posted April 19 Posted April 19 This highway entry/exit just south of Gotha is a bit wonky, though I'm sure it's not the only one 3
RexKorner Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Hello, I would like to contribute to the corrections for the Cold War Germany map. I grew up in the area mentioned below and also got to know the section from the air. First of all, thank you very much for doing this. It turned out great. The deficiencies mentioned below aren't particularly significant, but given time, they could be fixed. The Bergpark in Kassel turned out great. 1. The railway line (now a railway cycle path) at 32U 529750 5631977 (most recently used as a transport route for tanks to and from the training grounds) is shown here as a river. 2. The radar station was not located in the Kirschenwald forest at 32U 530576 5631564 but was located on the Semmelberg, former Hawk position at 32U 535256 5641926 3. There was another Hawk position in Giessen near Fernwald Albach 32U 483618 5600619 4. The Homberg castles are missing at 32U 528473 5653988 The Rimberg transmission tower and beacon at 32U 532907 5626921 The Knüll - US transmitter at 32U 529569 5640514 1

And what kind of radar was at Semmelberg?
