captain_dalan Posted Monday at 12:43 PM Posted Monday at 12:43 PM Hey everyone. Been a while since the last I flew more then some instant actions. So last weekend I decided to go take her out for a spin for some CO-OP. While I was telling Jester to setup the NAV grid over the bullseye, I selected the heading to be absolute 090 (the expected vector for bogies/bandits). Back in the day, this would result with the grid being positioned cross like on the TID repeater, with the sectors radiating to the right, and the 4 axis arms coinciding with the 00, 09, 18 and 27 radials. However, (this was on Syria map) to my surprise, the grid seems offset a few degrees. Is this a bug or a feature? If the latter, when was this introduced? Does the absolute heading no longer correspond tp true north? Is the TID no longer aligned to true north? Image bellow for illustration: Modules: FC3, Mirage 2000C, Harrier AV-8B NA, F-5, AJS-37 Viggen, F-14B, F-14A, Combined Arms, F/A-18C, F-16C, MiG-19P, F-86, MiG-15, FW-190A, Spitfire Mk IX, UH-1 Huey, Su-25, P-51PD, Caucasus map, Nevada map, Persian Gulf map, Marianas map, Syria Map, Super Carrier, Sinai map, Mosquito, P-51, AH-64 Apache
Ivandrov Posted Monday at 04:23 PM Posted Monday at 04:23 PM (edited) Heading for the NAVGRID threat axis is Magnetic not True heading. Hence your grid is offset by whatever the jet thinks the MAGVAR is right now. If you want it to point straight east on the TID you'll have to calculate the Magnetic heading yourself or use F10 map bullseye function to tell you. Edited Monday at 11:55 PM by Ivandrov
captain_dalan Posted Tuesday at 10:24 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 10:24 PM It wasn't always so though. The image below was taken sometimes last year. When were these changes made, and based on what documentation? null Modules: FC3, Mirage 2000C, Harrier AV-8B NA, F-5, AJS-37 Viggen, F-14B, F-14A, Combined Arms, F/A-18C, F-16C, MiG-19P, F-86, MiG-15, FW-190A, Spitfire Mk IX, UH-1 Huey, Su-25, P-51PD, Caucasus map, Nevada map, Persian Gulf map, Marianas map, Syria Map, Super Carrier, Sinai map, Mosquito, P-51, AH-64 Apache
Ivandrov Posted Tuesday at 10:45 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:45 PM (edited) September of last year was the most recent patch note I can find about changing NAVGRID from True to Magnetic. It's a bit vague on what that actually means but I assume it's for the Threat Axis. I don't know what Heatblur had used for this specific change. Could be a manual, could be SME feedback. I have however found a reference in the NATOPS that the Grid updates its position based on changes in MAGVAR. Edited Wednesday at 12:59 AM by Ivandrov 1 1
