DD_Crash Posted May 6 Author Posted May 6 Just had a quick look and there is basically no difference to the cost. So any help will be appreciated.
Qcumber Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Option 1 is more future proof. Another option might be to get a 5080. Cheaper than a 4090 and only about 12% slower. If you can get one at MSRP that is. Prices and stock are pretty good in the UK now. 1 PC specs: 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64GB RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - (for posts before March 2025: 5800x3d - rtx 4070) - VR headsets Quest Pro (Jan 2024-present; Pico 4 March 2023 - March 2024; Rift s June 2020- present). DD_Crash Posted May 7 Author Posted May 7 Thanks, I retired some time ago so not too fussed about future proofing.

I don't see how this is possible with the 4090 pricing. Also, the 5800X3D is only available 2nd hand at inflated prices. I would suggest: get the 5700X3D + 64 GB of DDR4-3200 C16 + 5080 (or 2nd hand 4080 if you can get a good local deal).
DD_Crash Posted May 7 Author Posted May 7 Well there is about £400 difference (bigger than I first thought) I can buy a second hand 4090 for about £1800 (yes it is expensive but available) but I can trade in my 3090 for £550, used 58003d for £320 with £140 for my 5900x and both will have a 5 year guarantee as opposed to £250 for a mb, £550 for a 98003d plus another £200 for ram which is cheaper but not sure that it would be better.
