Porco Rosso Posted May 7 Posted May 7 (edited) Hi everybody, I just bought the crystal super and msi ventus 5090, my cpu is the 7900x3d, does anyone has the same configuration? How many fps do you get? Should I upgrade cpu? Cause far as I saw, upgrading to the 9800x3d the benefit from the 7900x3d is only 1-2% Edited May 8 by Porco Rosso

With dynamic foveated rendering, it seems to comfortably run at 90FPS for the most part in the Phantom - although you do still get microstutters which could be my own end. Flight simming and VR, with the search for better performance becomes a real rabbit hole. But to answer your question, your 5090 will be the primary bottleneck and the 7800X3D should be more than enough 1 Website | Digital Coalition Air Force | Discord CPU: AMD R9950X \ Mobo: MSI MPG X670E Gaming Carbon WiFi \ RAM: Corsair Vengeance 96GB 6000MT/s \ GPU: RTX 5090 \ Various SSDs

I'm not a thorough tester with flight SIM and VR - the reason is because you can spend more time tweaking than actually enjoying the simulator for what it is. However what I do know is that the DCS FPS overlay is not accurate/useful as in this context it will claim the CPU is holding you back, whereas for this sort of use, the more powerful your GPU is, the better. I went from a 4090 to a 5090 and noticed a significant improvement in experience. With VR you won't be running ultra settings, but you can comfortably hold 90fps no problem with the 5090 with appropriate optimisation. Just expect you'll have to do tweaking and some optimisation to get there 1 1 Website | Digital Coalition Air Force | Discord CPU: AMD R9950X \ Mobo: MSI MPG X670E Gaming Carbon WiFi \ RAM: Corsair Vengeance 96GB 6000MT/s \ GPU: RTX 5090 \ Various SSDs

Hi Calvin, thanks, I already saw this video, but I’m trying to know how many fps I have with the 7900x3d. Can’t wait to have my super Edited May 9 by Porco Rosso

I will warn though with the 5090 - I find it to be a pretty unstable card which I believe to be tied to drivers(I haven't updated to the newer ones given media reports). Works just fine on high loads and benchmarks but has caused weird stability bugs. Had to disable MSI Afterburner as that was causing Windows to crash with the 5090. Playing a game like age of empires 2 it can momentarily freeze and lots of reports in event viewer of event id 153, suggesting problems with how the card is communicating. Never had problems with the 4090 or any card prior. I don't think the card is defective and I'm certain my PSU is more than fine. Just expect the card to do some strange things as I have seen similar reports from people moving from 4090 to 5090. 2 Website | Digital Coalition Air Force | Discord CPU: AMD R9950X \ Mobo: MSI MPG X670E Gaming Carbon WiFi \ RAM: Corsair Vengeance 96GB 6000MT/s \ GPU: RTX 5090 \ Various SSDs

But far as possible I don’t want to use the dfr, obviously with compromise I’d estimate around 65-70 FPS with Quadviews, TAA, and High Res settings. 1

Just expect you'll have to do tweaking and some optimisation to get there Hi, can I ask what kind of optimisation I can use to get that 90fps? I am using 5090+7800x3D with crystal light and can barely do stable 80fps in Marianas. More like 30-40fps on ground, 60-70 in sky. I run high settings and full FOV for Crystal Light with DLSS on. I upgraded to 5090 from 7900xts and must say when I ran it with 85 FOV and MSAAx4 I had stable 90fps in the sky and 60-70fps on the ground, same map. It seems to me I've downgraded lol. I think the CPU is bottlenecking the 5090 maybe.
