Fingers68 Posted May 26 Posted May 26 (edited) Spent hours in a driving SIM yesterday, this is after updating the latest Pimax firmware and Pimax play, beta. Running like butter. DCS however has turned into a stuttering, freezing, loss of tracking mess. Choosing Pimax play as openXR run time seems to have fixed it. I am convinced the latest Pimax updates has triggered this. Anyone else experiencing this? Edited May 26 by Fingers68

Anyone else experiencing this? Not experienced this. But if Pimax Play OpenXR has fixed it, then why worry? Surely you don’t want to use SteamVR OpenXR runtime? And I don’t think the PimaxXR “stand alone app” - outside of Pimax Play - has been supported for a while. System: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 OC, 64 GB RAM@6000Mhz. The pimaxXR run time still works perfectly in my driving Sims, slightly better than pimax play, hence why I use it. DCS was working very well with it also, till the updates. To be honest I updated DCS and Pimax both the same day so can't say which update has changed things. PimaxXR has not been updated for a very long time, it's possible it's not going to work at all in the future. They currently recommend it still on there website https://pimax.com/blogs/blogs/how-to-run-openxr-on-the-pimax-crystal?srsltid=AfmBOoqjBeJyns31an-6oSuHz6sMC9VXj2ymOaKmUnyVnXhDAjqbENZL

Anyway, how is your performance in 2D in DCS? A guy on a Norwegian forum said he got terrible performance with Pimax Crystal after the update, but then later he discovered he also had gotten terrible performance in 2D too. I have not updated my Pimax Play yet. Only DCS. I have also heard that the external PimaxXR app OpenXR gives performance boost compared to Pimax Play Open XR. But, to make it easier I just use the Pimax Play version. System: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 OC, 64 GB RAM@6000Mhz. Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudderpedals. Tobse Posted May 27 Posted May 27 I had massive head tracking issues in my Crystal light after the recent update, recovered this by going back to PimaxPlay 1.36, which nicely resolved the issue. Importantly, I had to first deinstall, then remove all Pimax-related folders in the AppData subfolders, the reinstall the older version of PimaxPlay. Here's a link to the different versions, thanks to The Blog of ThizThizzyDizzy Best of luck, Tobse! 1
Fingers68 Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 I used the run time app to remove the pimaxXR run time. Repaired the others showing as errored, repaired the open XR tool kit (which thankfully keeps your settings). Set Pimax as the runtime and for Quad views. So far things seem to now be running better than ever. Apart from when it's raining!! Currently on mission 6 of the big show, dear me, the rain is not kind to FPS. More testing required, I might go back to pimaxXR just to see if it is infact this that caused the issue.
ChariotOfFLAME Posted May 30 Posted May 30 This was may be due to the recent CPU issues in the previous patch. Try the hotfix from today and see if that helps!
Tobse Posted November 6 Posted November 6 I just did the update to PimaxPlay 1.43.1, and to my great delight, all the head tracking issues I had with any version later than 1.36 are gone! Cheers, Tobse! 1 1
Zone5 Posted November 7 Posted November 7 PimaxXR or Pimax OpenXR (native)? Quadviews or Native FFR? I've been living on 1.36 for more than 6 months, but would love to be able to actually use the current software version. For me everything above 1.36 is a stuttery mess (I've tried all up to 1.41 and kind of gave up after that...), although 1.36 tracks very reliably with essentially no perceptible stutter/jitter. What's your system? I run a 7800X3D with 64 Gb, and a 4090.

I did the 1.43.1 upgrade out of curiosity and mentally planned on downgrading again, but it all worked fine. I am using FFR functionality directly accessible via the PimaxPlay software and have not messed with the XR choices. I did do a full install with removal of all stored data, so I would recommend that. Best of luck for the upgrade! Take care, Tobse
