Nialfb Posted June 27 Posted June 27 I have a training mission in the Afghanistan map for the KA-50 Black Shark 3, the Mi-24 and the Su-27T. Everything works fine other than the ABRIS in the Ka-50! I have a route to follow but the ABRIS has a constant message, "Nav Error" whether I start the mission hot or cold. I started cold and dark and did a full INU alignment and I got the message. I started hot and got the message. If I fly using the autopilot the waypoints are working, it's just the ABRIS that isn't ... the aircraft is stuck at the takeoff airfield, according to the ABRIS, and does not follow the route. Any ideas guys? Thanks Mi-24P Afghanistan Training.miz Game setup - I9-13900K, 3000 MHz 24 Core 32 Logical Processors, NVIDIA RTX 4090, 42” ASUS 4K OLED monitor, TM HOTAS Warthog, TM TPR Rudder pedals, Bigscreen Beyond VR.
Nialfb Posted June 29 Author Posted June 29 BTW ... I know that the ABRIS relies on GPS. Can someone confirm if there is GPS coverage on the Afghanistan map or if I am just doing something wrong. Weta43 Posted July 6 Posted July 6 The GPS design originally called for 24 SVs, eight each in three approximately circular orbits, but this was modified to six orbital planes with four satellites each. GPS requires four or more satellites to be visible for accurate navigation. The orbits are arranged so that at least six satellites are always within line of sight from everywhere on the Earth's surface ∴ Coverage is global 1 Cheers.

Which leads me back to my original question, why doesn't the KA-50 Black Shark ABRIS work on the Afghanistan map? Weta43 Posted July 7 Posted July 7 At a guess, either, it's because it uses GLONASS (not using the US/West GPS) & that had periods post USSR where it didn't have global coverage, so maybe your mission is set then or your mission is earlier than GLONASS (there's an ABRIS page that tells you how many satellites are in view), or it's a bug ? 1 Cheers.
Nialfb Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 Thanks Weta43. I reset my mission date to 1987, two years before the soviets baled out of Afghanistan but it made no difference. Maybe is just doesn't work on the Afghanistan map! Solution Nialfb Posted July 8 Author Solution Posted July 8 Hi Guys I found a YouTube video by VOLK and he addresses this issue. It seems that you need to have Russia or USA in your coalition for the GPS to work. I've tried it on a new mission and used the cold war coalition setup but added Russia from the neutral coalitions. The ABRIS works fine. Now, if only there was an easy way to add Russia to my coalition in an existing mission, ED, please, if you wouldn't mind! Oh, and I tried creating a new mission with a Russian Ka-50 III and copying it into my mission but it comes in as a Neutral faction 1 Game setup - I9-13900K, 3000 MHz 24 Core 32 Logical Processors, NVIDIA RTX 4090, 42” ASUS 4K OLED monitor, TM HOTAS Warthog, TM TPR Rudder pedals, Bigscreen Beyond VR.
Weta43 Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Can't you shift countries across coalitions in existing missions from the ME now (button with three linked boxes). (& isn't there a 'give everyone GPS always' option also somewhere ?) 16 hours ago, Nialfb said: (...) (& isn't there a 'give everyone GPS always' option also somewhere ?) Hi Weta43. I'm as dumb as a dishcloth sometimes! I forgot that it was there! I ended up creating a new mission and then using the multi selection tool to copy and paste (CNTRL-C, CNTRL-V) everything from one mission to another! DOH!
