inZane Posted August 14 Posted August 14 (edited) I flight mate of mine got engaged and shot down by an SA-15 while at or near 40,000 ft. This is completely outside the range of the SA-15. We have either have the 9K330 Tor (1986) or 9K331 Tor-M1 (1991) which was introduced with the 9M331 missile, which is more likely. the 9M331 has max altitude of 10km (~32,000 ft) and range of 16km (~10 miles). The Tor-M2E (~2007) still uses 9M331 missiles but greater tracking. I am positive we are not using the 9M338 missile for the Tor-M2E or better variant as that has a similar envelope as the other 2 missile variants I will try to get a track file as soon as I can, but thought I would bring this to your attention. EDIT: I made a couple errors on the missiles. Here is some info on the 9M338 in the Tor-M2DT (2017). The 9M331 has 12 km maximum range and 6 km ceiling. The newer 9M338 can reach altitudes up to 10 km with the same range. Rhayvn Posted August 14 Posted August 14 (edited) It's a bit over-tuned. You have to get within about 7 miles for FOUR HARMs to have a chance for 1 to get through reliably. It will shoot down 5-7 incoming GBU38/54 in a swarm before the remainder hit. IF they are all close together. Good luck to you if you have to use GBU12s and It's moving. Or, if you do not have 4 HARMs or 8 GBUs to expend on it. Unable to test yet for simultaneous attacks from different directions. New HARM code for it appears to be 132. Edited August 14 by Rhayvn 1
Alex_Weyland Posted August 15 Posted August 15 A little bit more I shall add: It can shot down lofted munition from 1 nm distance. Instant launch. So, lofting isn't the solution either. However, Tor-M2 can be destroyed by setting impact angle for JDAMs up to 80-85 degrees. It will penetrate successfully and hit the radar dead zone. Requires to drop from 42000+ ft though.
inZane Posted August 16 Author Posted August 16 (edited) image.png with this new information, this is no longer an issue. 12 km in height is just under 40k ft.
