The_Cokester Posted Sunday at 05:25 PM Posted Sunday at 05:25 PM I want to start this off by saying the 9950X3D has been a performance uplift in other games and general productivity but I was very disappointed to find out that DCS just cant take advantage of the new tech. Before the upgrade I would be pinned at 90FPS with high settings using quad views. MSAA X4. Now, with the same settings i cant get more that 40FPS. I have to use DLSS and knock the resolution in Pimax Play way down along with aggressive settings in quad views. When gaming in DCS I use process lasso to put DCS on the CCD 0 for the V-Cache and that works well but one of the things I notice is none of the cores go above 4Ghz. I just feel like the 9950X3D is not being pushed at all and I am leaving alot of performance on the table. Anyone got any ideas? DLAA looks way better Also - Process lasso… I know some people use it. I never have. For me it just adds another layer of confusion. And most importantly- I don’t need it in DCS. I use full resolution in Pimax Play. Yes. And that is for the Crystal Super that has way higher resolution than you OG Crystal. And Quadviews not very aggressive I would say. And I get over 72 fps stable, probably closer to 90. so I have set my Crystal Super to 72hz refresh rate - and it is very smooth that way. I have AMD 9950X3D and a RTX 5090. Not sure why you get so low performance. MY advice: follow the instructions in this video. I would think MSAA, DLSS and resolution settings are GPU related and have less to do with whatever CPU you are using. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5

The 14900K is a capable cpu. When you get your 9950X3D working as it should I am actually not sure you will get a very big improvement in high resolution VR as the Crystal headsets. I am not an expert though. But for now, your PC seem to be underperforming a lot, and it very well might your CPU that is not behaving as it should. Could it be something in your Bios settings? I don’t know. Before my 9950X3D a few months back I had always been an using Intel CPUs. Since the early 90’s. So when I got this new PC the bios options looked a little different. I actually used chatGPT to guide me through the Bios settings to make sure things were in order. Ram speeds etc.. I guess you had to do a new fresh Windows install when changing your motherboard and CPU. Sure chipset drivers from you motherboard manufacturer are installed correctly too? I hope you get this fixed soon. You have built yourself an awesome system! With an OG Crystal and Quadviews set up correctly your system really should be…flying in DCS. Blackhawk163 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago That's so weird, I have a some what similar system. I'm am running a b650 board (so no pcie 5 for me) same speed ram as yours with a 9800x3d and an MSI 5090oc and I can tell you that I'm getting 60+fps with everything nearly on and the resolution on the Pimax CL at native. I will say that I'm not running any AA, as it's sharp enough at that resolution. Smooth with no over the port and starboard side stutters. My first assigned aircraft is in my profile name Ryzen 9800x3d/64gb DDR5 amd expo/RTX 5090/4tb m2/ Win11 pro/Pimax crystal light Winwing Orion F16ex (Shaker kit)/Skywalker pedals/Orion 2 F15EX II Throttle/3 MFD units/Virpil CM3 Mongoose Throttle/Trackir 5 F-16/A10II A/C /F-18/F-15E/F-15C/F-14/F5E II/F-4/Ah64/UH60/P51-D/Super Carrier/Syria/Sinai/Iraq/Persian Gulf/Afghanistan/Nevada/Normandy 2.0
Solution The_Cokester Posted 14 hours ago Author Solution Posted 14 hours ago Well I think I know what the issue was. I put Pimax plays quality to custom and put it at 20% and it was still crystal clear. Which I thought was odd. There was not perceived quality loss at all. Went through the config and noticed the resolution was at at like 1700x1700 per eye. Then put it at 100% and it was at like 3840x3840 per eye. Deleted pimax play and reinstalled. 100% slider was at 2880x2880. ( I used steam VR to check the actual resolution coming through) I guess a corrupted pimax play install was it. Or it thought my OG crystal was the super. Jesus I was going mad. Also, there is an argument to put pimax play and DCS on the CCD1 without the cache. Average FPS was down like 10fps but it was stutter free. Putting it on CCD0 with the VCache had a higher overall fps but there was more stutters. Also, reapplied thermal paste and there is no change in temps. So in conclusion Pimax play had my resolution almost two times higher than what my headset is rated for. A reinstall fixed the issue. And P.S. There was a performance uplift going the AMD 9950X3D. Instead of 90 to 100fps. I was getting 110 to 120. Then when switching too DLAA and DLSS (the new transformer model got rid of the ghosting completely) pinned at 120fps. Thanks everyone who chimed in. 1 1
