Animated GIF or PNG Support

Would it be possible to add support for animated PNG or GIF files during game play?

It could be used for a variety of things - news flash, intel update, or a meme. It would be added thru the Mission Editor.

Either my idea sucks the south end of a northbound horse or it needs more visibility. What does the community say?
