Maddaawg Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago So I am on the trial period of 14 days with 2 left. I have dialed in my settings as best I vmcan on a 3080 Ti. Comparing it to my Quest 3, the Q3 is a little better. The lenses are clear with no screen door effect and the colors are also better. I am assuming the PCS can get much better if I had a 5090, but so would the Q3. Maybe not as much, but $1800 plus 2 grad for a 5090 is a lot for only a little better. Also, even though I have upgraded my CPU, I still show CPU bound. How much better will the PCS be vs the Q3 with a 5090? Meta Quest 3, AMD 9800x3D, EVGA 3080Ti FTW3, Corsair 2x32GB DDR5 6000, ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M2 NVME Windows 11 Drive, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB M2 NVME Game Drive

Comparing the Quest 3 and the Crystal Super on a system with a 9800X3D and a RTX 5090 is … silly I think. I have a 9950X3D (which in games I understand is comparable to 9800X3D) and a RTX 5090 - and I have both the Quest 3 and Crystal Super. The difference in is huge. I understand that Pimax has a pretty low requirement for the Super on their website. Personally I think that is misleading. I personally wouldn’t run it on a system without a RTX 5090 and a good CPU. Maybe a 4090. I have a system with a 4090 too (see signature), but for me that is unsatisfying… You CAN run it on a lower end system, and obviously you do. But I think it is a waste of money because you are missing out on what the Crystal Super has to offer, why it even exists- and you might as well spend your money elsewhere. I understand your concern, because first - the Crystal Super is super expensive- and paying for a RTX 5090 is very very expensive too. Is it worth it? For me - yes. But I am an older dude, Flight sims has been my hobby since 1983, and the investment didn’t bother me as much. 15 years ago I could not have afforded it. Yes, you can super sample the Quest 3 more with a RTX 5090 than with your 3080. It will run a lot better of course than with your present graphics card. But still - physically the Crystal Super has 327% more pixels than the Quest 3 to show…. But with your 3080 you don’t get the experience that is intended with the Crystal Super. What should you do? Don’t know. It’s a lot of money. Maybe enjoy what you have, or try to get a “cheaper” second hand RTX 4090 and enjoy your Quest 3 even better. The Quest 3 gets quite an uplift going from a 3080 to a 4090. Especially since the rest of your system is good. System 1: Intel I9 13900K, ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC, 32 GB RAM@6000Mhz.
