Training mission only starts out of Mission editor

I guess it's not a real bug but only a feature I didn't fully understand. I've downloaded the .basic training missions a while ago - I guess they are build by @Rudel_chw - for the Viper (1st mission attached). They only seems to run when started out of the mission editor. When started from DCS training menu these training missions freeze. I would like to start them from the normal traing menu. How can I fix that?

That's what I see in the F-16 trainings menu (see below). When I start the training mission a time bar appears at the bottom of the screen and the screen freezes. Unfortunately I can't attach a screen shot because even the screen shot function freezes. There is also no track file being generated. Clicking on the time bar rightmost square stops the freeze and returns to training menu.

Starting exactly the same mission from mission editor works fine - no time bar, no freeze. The mission just starts without any issues.

I have no clue what's going on here.

Well it says it right there "To be started from the Mission Editor". Those are official training missions from ED so that is why. You clearly downloaded a set of training missions from the user files and they can only be started from the Mission Editor as the mission creator stated. That isn't a bug or something you can fix.

Most likely issue is that the training missions are in the DCS World folder. You probably won't be able to start them from the training menu. They should be placed in the Save Games Missions folder. I use the same Missions and have them in the Saved Games folder. They will start from the Missions menu without first opening them in the Mission editor.

I've build the lessons.lua myself and that's just a reminder for me 😉 . It did not come from the mission builder.

However, as the mission just starts normal from the mission editor I wonder why it's not possible to start it from DCS. I've also seen those missions started from DCS. Therefore something must be different in my DCS setup. And it must be possible to fix because I've seen it working.

Thanks, it works when placing and starting them out of Saved Games/missions folder.

However, what is the root cause for this? Is there a hidden flag somewhere in the mission file? Other missions start from the training folder without issues.

Ok, issue solved.

Remove the dot "." at start of the filename and it starts without issues.

Strange.

I can't say for sure, but it may have something to do with the leading period in the file name. In Linux the leading period signifies a hidden file. Windows is supposed to treat the period as just another character. That said, I remember having some issues previously with these missions because of the leading period, which went away when I re-named them and deleted the leading period. I haven't had an issue with the latest version in Windows 11 24H2. What Windows version are you using?

I use Win 11 24H2 too.

It's solved now (see my last post). The leading dot in the filename was the issue. I didn't know this.
