apoll Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Hi. Getting into the detail of BS now...concentrating on navigating to NDBs using the ADF radio compass. Except...when I switch to a pre set channel..say to Kymrsk airfield NDB....the needle on the HSI does not move. I do a test of the ADF system...the needle moves...but just goes back to standing straight up on the HSI. I switch to the soumd test...there is no morse code being given...it is as if the thing is NOT working. What am I doing wrong? I am using Shark Pit v 2..and I notice on the right cocpit wall..where the airfield ADF frequencies should be...there is nothing..just an empty template ready for the frequencies. Is this connected? Is it possible there are no ADF frequencies loaded into my ARK.lua? Grateful any help here... Also...one more question...I would like to have max realism and have each airfield have a different frequency...so I have to dial it up in the VHF radio first. Has anyone got a modified lua file for this? I can go through and do each airfield my self..but if someone's already done it... thanks. apoll
Frederf Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 The ADF is a bit of a mystery. The antenna/compass switch determines whether the signal drives the audio morse code into the headset or it drives the RMI needle. You can't have both going at once unlike every other Western aircraft I know of. The self-test button in antenna (audio tones) mode should give a long, continuous tone whether or not a station is tuned in. The manual seems to suggest, oddly indirectly, that the VHF-1 and/or VHF-2 radios need to be on for the ADF to work? All NDBs are "telegraph" type so make sure the telegraph/telephone switch is in the telegraph (down) position. Kymrsk should be Channel 3-O for 408.0 KHz for the KW/YuO pair of approach NDBs (only one of a pair will be transmitting at any one time, on the approach end of a runway due to weather conditions) and Channel 3-I for 830.0 KHz for the K/O pair. Range is pretty short so you'd likely have to be aloft and within 10km or so, line of sight. I've been considering making a modified LUA that gave proper frequencies to each airbase. For fun here's Kymrsk's entry in Airdromes.lua (uh, shouldn't that be aerodromes?). [Krymsk] = { code = "URKW", callsign = "Taymyr", frequency = 127500000.0, control_tower = { "KDP_BIG", "KDP" } }, According to my Caucasus Nav volume (which I think is for Lock On) says the tower frequency is 118.6 MHz. This is the section from Beacons.lua so it looks like the frequencies are right. Frederf Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Worked OK for me. VHF-1 and VHF-2 have nothing to do with the ARK-ADF system (apart from the special VHF comm radio ADF slaved mode) so ignore the manual about that. The ARK is powered by the "Nav" switch on the wall panel. The telegraph mode is the "up" position of the switch... so my Sharkpit has an error in it. The Sharkpit has the TG and TLF positions backward. Honestly the needle doesn't care which mode you are in. In TLF mode with antenna mode on you hear constantly the transmission of the NDB where in TG mode it has a threshold squelch so you only hear the louder parts of the morse code transmission. The telephone mode is designed to hear voice or voice-like sound (probably weather information) where you want to hear the quiet parts and loud parts equally. The telegraph mode is designed to hear Morse code so you hear silence in the quieter parts and only hear the loud tones. I found the Auto Inner/Outer selector switch didn't do anything except pick the outer beacon in all cases, no matter how I flew around close to either NDB. My understanding is that the mission itself can override the default ARK channels for just that mission. The panel on the cockpit is actually generated from values and is not a texture. If the panel is blank or otherwise corrupted I would assume the normal channel definitions have been altered by the mission.

Maybe your mission was created in 1.00 and your are now playing in 1.01. Try to setup a simple mission in the editor the ADF should work. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
apoll Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 tks to all who replied. I think it has to do with the training mission I've been using...it does not enable the ADF for some reason; I loaded up a mission, and wallah...there was the table on the side of the cockpit complete..so assume it worksd there. Must be mission specific. apoll

Hi Ferderf ! Would you please tell me where can i find the real frequencies ? you said you consulted your Caucasus Nav volume...where can I get it ? Would you send me the list of all 27 aerodromes with their relative frequency ? Thanks mate [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frederf Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Right here: http://www.combatsimchecklist.net/LomacDownload.htm It might not have enough information for the whole DCS area (which is bigger than the Lomac area). For example Batumi is not in the Lomac area but a simple Google search found this: http://www.worldaerodata.com/wad.cgi?id=GG00007&sch=UGSB

I just saw the charts and I would have to find the rest of the airport's frequencies cause in the LOMAC charts there are only few of the DCS airports...anyway thanks alot ! Cheers [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

If you dont see the ADF channels on the wall that means that you where trying to modify the Beacon.lua file and there was an error in the script you wrote ... if you replace it by the original file you'll see it back.
