I'm a sysadmin of 18yrs and I have a 25meg connection. I want to bring a new server up and provide it unlocked and open to the community. After doing a bit of research I've found that ServMan would be an excellent choice of Mod. There are so many mods and maps out there, I was hoping that someone could provide me with a short list of mods and maps that would provide the community with the best experience.

One thing I plan to do is provide a variety of maps (votemiz:x), to include a rookie learning mission. Maybe four flights (alpha through delta) to choose from that each provide a different "Qualification" exercise with text queues during the mission (ex:remember, trim is best used in the following manner) and after action discussion.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

Indeed, servman is a "must" ;)

As for other mods - I would suggest that you kept yor server as modfree as possible, since most of the mods:

a) are mostly clientside only. Only the client can use a mod and see any changes. Installing a mod on a server wont change anything for the clients.

b) may restrict "most of the community" from entering your server, causing crash-issues etc for the clients who doesn't use the same mod.

You as a server-admin and content provider need to decide which kind of audience you want on your server.

As for content - there are plenty of servers hosting training missions out there already.

So may want to sit down and decide;

- Should I host Rookie missions? Training?

- Coop only?

- Reallife like missions? Fiction? Arcade & Fun?

- PvP and largescale?

c) clients will not see 3D objects if sever using existing 3D models which are builtin DCS only a "halfway" and need minor Mods at server side.

Clients won't crash, but will see inviseble air/rotor crafts with visible weapons (as i know)

4xmpl: MiG-29K, F-111F, Ka-52, SH-3H(deleted from 1.0.1), Harrier etc.

I think server needs to make (special) MODs packs what clients need to install (onto a virgin game) before connecting to (special) ServMan.

but it's not impossible :smilewink:

Anyway: The ServMan is a VERY good idea :thumbup:
