shackman Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I have never gotten into LOMAC in depth before because it'd always crash when I played it on Vista. But after changing the compatibility and all that now it's set for Windows 98/ME and works. So now that I can practice more I have never been able to beam a missile on purpose, or if so I didn't know I did it. But I'm trying to understand when you put the missile at your 3 or 9 and pump ourt chaff/flares why is it whenever I do that the missile slams right into me? Do you not make the turn until just before it hits you? Or right after the launch warning? Also what are other ways to evade missiles? I know about Ironhand and his track but it never works on mine, so if somebody could give me a link or directions about how to evade missiles I'd love it . [sIGPIC]http://www.vrsimulations.com/images/sigbanners/vrs_supporter.png[/sIGPIC]
Exorcet Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 You should start avoiding as soon as you get a missile on your RWR. In fact, it's even advisable to avoid before you even think I missile a coming (especially true against something like R-27 ET, you'll never know it's coming unless you see it). If you don't let the enemy launch, you're pretty well off. Of course, this is not always possible. My standard move it to break 90 degrees, use chaff/flare, and beam the missile with full afterburn while bleeding its energy with gentle vertical turns (I try not to let my speed drop below 400-500 knots; diving and then using the added enery to climb works well two, the missile can't sustain vertical momentum like a fighter). Usually, this keeps me safe, however the missile can sometimes be persistent. For this, you need to develop a sense of range. Get a feel for how close a missile is to you based on the RWR, where the bandit is, etc, that way you'll know when to really pull a hard turn to avoid it. shackman Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Well what should you do if you are within 1-3miles of the bandit? how should you avoid close in encounters? and when you say gentle vertical turns do you mean like a barrel roll or what? all the while keeping sight of the missile and your speed up right? Exorcet Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 At really short range like that, you really need to concentrate on not getting locked up. If you are fired on, dump as much counter measures as you can (it might help to turn off afterburn if a heat seeker is after you) and turn as hard as you can, trying to get inside the missile's turn radius. This can take some practice, and can vary alot depending on the situation. By vertical turns, I mean I'm usually going up and down as hard as I can without losing much speed. So for example, I might pull 5 g pulling the nose up and getting to 20,000 feet, then roll inverted, and pull 5 g diving to 15,000 feet, then to 20,000, then to 15,000, etc. This won't work at close range though, and you don't always see the missile, if I'm doing this I'm usually going off the RWR alone.
