jangle Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Whenever I play the courier mission it completely crashes my PC but this has only started happening in the past few days. It started by the mission juddering, as if it was struggling with frame rate, so I toned down the graphics. Now it freezes my whole pc randomly somewhere between the pickup and the ship. Anybody else had this? I am using version 1.01c, XP, 4Gb RAM, ATI 4850 & and E8400 processor so the machine should be fine.. Alternatively could some post (if it is allowed) their copy of the courier.miz file so I can check if it the mission file that is corrupted. Thanks.
GuntiNDDS Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 When you say it crashes your pc, do you mean it will just reboot or do you get a bluescreen ? If so, what stopcode and message does it show ? If you goto the %WINDIR%\Minidump\ Directory, does it have any files there ? I would have attached the mission file, but i got the german verison of the game.
jangle Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 It freezes the whole machine, no blue screens or anything. I have to manually soft reset as i cannot even get to the task manager. There is nothing in the minidump folder. I have noticed that the game jumps a little when it is drawing new scenery so I think that because of the rain in the mission it can't handle it. Not sure why it should do that as the machine is well within the minimum spec
GuntiNDDS Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 OK. In my oppinion this is most propably a hardware issue. 1) Could be your CPU get to hot, - but: in that case usually modern motherboards automaticly shut the pc down. 2) Could be your RAM, - but: Unusual that it just freezes your computer. Usually RAM problems provoke a restart or a bluescreen. 3) Could be your Graphic Card. 4) Could be your mainboard. I would propably first try to reinstall the newest drivers for your gfx card. Shall the problem still occour, try replacing the graphics card with a spare one you got lying around or from a friend. If the problem is still persistent, i would then check the CPU temperature. There are some utilities you can find on the internet for that. If the temperature is within valid parameters, check your RAM with memtest86. If you cant find memmory errors, it is most propably a problem with your mainboard. You may try updating your BIOS before replacing it tho.
jangle Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 Hi, Did think it was a hardware issue but every other mission that I have tried works fine. Fairly sure it isn't the PC as I have an aftermarket cooler and have run most of the common tests and everything checks out. If you have the English version would you mind uploading the mission so I could see if it is that that is corrupted? Thanks
GuntiNDDS Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Unfortunitly I don`t have the english version. What happens if you open the mission in the mission editor ?
jangle Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 shame. I haven't tried that.. Will do it tonight.
jangle Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 I can get into the editor fine but as I don;t know much about it I didn't change anything.
