welcome trackir fans,

just wanted to share my initial experience with the trackir5 using the track clip pro.

after happily using the tir3pro with vector and the track hat for years,

i recently scored a tir5 with the pro clip and what difference that makes.

when positioned correctly the pro clip never looses tracking,

the range of head movement blows the hat away, off your head forever :)

totally impressed with the track clip pro and tir5 combo,

for exisitng tir owners, i suggest getting one or making something similar,

and with the new software the light filtering (when you selcet the pro clip mode) is very good at eliminate all interference from other light sources.

tir4 owners can upgrade to the current software but tir3 owners apparently need to wait for the next release that is going to support the tir3.

setting it up:

the default profile was very friendly with DCS BS,

with a suttle but well made soft centre.

a quick remap of the hot keys for centre, precision and pause.

i also selected the track clip pro tracking option,

which instantly got rid of a few flickering red dots when i was in hat clip mode.

no longer any need to add the software game update as i had done with the tir3, jumped straight into DCS BS and started looking around.

a big leap forward compared to natural point's earlier offerings.

(cannot comment on tir4, as i skipped that generation.)

the track clip pro seems a little flimsy, and i can see that thing getting damaged if not treated with the same love shown to fine china.

all in all i would have to say it was worth every penny,

my advice would be to get your old one on ebay and upgrade today.

GOOD TO HEAR!

I too am a TIR 3 with "vector" (reindeer antlers) expansion.

while i never had any problems with it, wondered if it was still worth the jump ("if it aint broke, dont fix it" mentality)

But I do think an upgrade after a few cycles, is good. so I bet there is a good leap in comparison between the two..compared to marginal upgrades with every single version.

(i like leaps than small increment, cause then if FEELS like you got a lot of bang for the buck, compared to paying "maximal money. for minimal upgrade" if that makes sense :)

I was just going to get the TrackIR5 and make due with the hat clip, but the store I shopped around to get a good price from, not only had the cheapest one I could find, but was bundling the pro clip with it and still costing less than some other places - so couldn't resist.

I don't like wearing headphones for playing most games so I made a makeshift bandana out of an old jiu-jitsu belt of mine and strapped it to that :D I've since switched to using it on headphones (which translate into less reconfiguration time needed each time I take the thing on/off because the headband would sometimes position itself and the clip at a different angle than before) but I'll probably go back to using a visor/headband to attach it to again later.

It's quite apparent when configuring the hatclip vs. the pro clip at how more reactive and precise the pro clip allows it to be, even though it works well with the hatclip alone. The only reason I can see to have/keep the hatclip now is as a backup in case I accidentally crush the proclip or something, otherwise I'll never use it again.

Edit: I turn off the Pause and Precision hotkeys completely, I don't really see or have a need for them, and just leave the Center key enabled. Other than that, default profile is working just fine for me.

very much so, after hearing the tir4 was better than a tir3,

i figured a tir5 had to be the leap you mention, and it is.

very pleased with it indeed.

Nothing to stop you using the pro clip; you just need a head visor / band to attach it to instead of to headphones (at least, most behind-the-head phones I've seen wouldn't interfere with this). I'd recommend you try it, you're wearing a hat anyway for the track clip right?

You just need a vertical loop or fastener to bind the clip around the band - the knot in the makeshift belt-bandana I used was up to the task, but even a flat shoelace or something would allow it to be secured without making it uncomfortable to wear.
