Jocman Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Hi all. I realized that maybe there's a bug in Track Ir (I own the version 4 Pro + TrackClip). In fact, flying in BS I've seen that if I turn or bank my head to the right side (moving also forward and backward panning inside the cockpit), evrything is fine (of course, in the range of the IR receiver). But if I do the same to the left side, I don't have the same range of movement (almost limited). I think maybe it happens 'cause the 3 IR emitters are placed on the left side of my head (on the headphone), so maybe the IR cone is limited,'cause when I turn or bank to the left, my head cover the emission. But the device is build to be positioned on the side (right or left), so I think the designer should have tought about this issue, dont'you? I tried to move the IR receiver from the center of the monitor to the left side, then also on the monitor basis (center then left), but nothing change: the left range is always limited.... Anyone else noticed the same "bug"??? Ideas on how to fix it??? Mugenjin Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 By placing the trackir camera off to the left on top of the monitor, there shouldn't be any issues. Open TrackIR Software and switch to camera view to see if the camera can see all 3 dots, while moving around your head. In default position, the 3 dots should be around the center.
topdog Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 (edited) Here's where I go for best results (w/TrackIR5). Camera is positioned on top of monitor between 25-33% in from the left side, and clip over my left ear. They are almost lined up (by twisting the camera a little, it's not precisely parallel with the monitor face) except I have to point the camera down a little bit as it's above my head. Within the calibration software, switching to camera view, you can see I've almost got the dots on-center but not quite; works well here though. Also note the orientation of the dots, the low dot is placed just about between the upper two on the X-axis. Having it somewhere between them is OK, go outside of that and the device might have some limitations on the extents. That works best for me anyway, and I was able to do the motions you describe OK (until I zoom in close enough to the monitor screen to slip off the camera's viewport). Make sure you've got something close to that. This is also using the default profile/settings, no major fussing around. Jocman Posted March 21, 2010 Author Posted March 21, 2010 Thanks for help. I'll try, then I'll post the results. Jocman Ok, guys. I followed all the suggestions. Checked the IR software and the IR rec position (now it's on the middle of the top left side of the monitor). It seems evrything's working fine, I got a good FOM. I suppose that if I can place the IR rec right in front of me (or better, in front of the IR emitters), it should be the best. I will think about during the making of my cockpit. BTW, thanks all of you for you help Jocman Jocman "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return" (L.
