deadsmell Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) I know theres a phantom/ghost plane mod for flaming cliffs, but it requires that you have a second PC to run the phantom on. I was just wondering if the new version could only require one PC for the phantom/Ghost and player? Is there any changes to the game that might allow it? I really wish I could do that. Edit: In case theres any confusion about what im talking about, this would be used for practicing formation flying. By Phantom, I mean a ghost plane that you practice flying with. nemises Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Hiya Deadsmell, Theres two , pretty easy ways of doing this that I can think of: 1) create a simple mission, with 1 AI aircraft, and one player aircraft.... set waypoints up for the AI aircraft, and practise flying formation with it? 2) grab a buddy and fly online with them, and practise your formation flying with a real pilot.... great fun, believe me!
deadsmell Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) Hi Nemesis, Yeah, ive tried using both the methods you mentioned above. Yeah you can use the mission editor to set some basic waypoints for Ai and fly along with them, but your extremely limited in what you can do with the AI. Just flying along..........maybe make a turn or two........ Not to mention in my experience, the Ai can start to act eradic, if you get too close, theyll break off, theyll change speeds without warning sometimes. The speed change thing could very well be my lack of knowledge/skill within the editor, but ive spent alot of time trying to get something workable, yet that would provide for an interesting flight, and it just isnt really to the level I want it to be. Especially with all the issues the AI itself poses. As far as doing it online with a buddy, that presents its own issues. First off, believe it or not it is extremely difficult to find someone with the necessary skills and mindset to fly with for any duration of time. Timezones also play a huge role in the online option. You end up having to rearrange your whole life just to get to fly for a little while. And thats if you can even find someone with a decent enough ping to fly with in good formation (which is a task in itself). Not to mention it leaves you depending on them, to show up, and not just screw around, which in my experience, they just end up screwing around the whole time anyway. at this point neither of those are a viable option for me. Believe me I have tried to make those options work for the last two years, and I dont have much to show for it, just alot of time invested.......... Im really just desperate for a tool I can use, that will allow me to practice on my own, without having to rely on anyone else. I would have gladly paid for this one single feature itself. the ability to practice aerobatic formation flying. I would have thought that ED would be aware that a great number of newcomers to the game, get interested when seeing things like Vfat, or watching the videos on Youtube of the various virtual aerobatic teams that make the videos. Its disappointing when You get the game, and find out that if you want to do formation, you have to buy a second computer, and a second copy of the game.......... Dont get me wrong, I love the game, but id really like to see this feature implemented. I think alot of people would really enjoy using it. Especially me lol. Thanks for the reply Nemesis.
