Hi Everyone.

So FC 2.0 is out and its looking amazing.

Now im really pumped on flying and having fun so i thought i'd come here to get some questions answered and try to improve my dogfighting skills.

Since my main fighter is the Su-27 this is pretty much for all the 27 experts out there.

BVR Wise:

1. How do you use your radar? I usually just press I and search to my left / center / right switching the elevation from -2 to 2 and see if there are any planes out there.

I know there are other modes like TWS and stuff and this is what i'd like to learn to use. Wich modes and when to use them.

2. What kind of procedure do you take when you realise your up against a F-15 / Maddogged 120? Since F-15 if full of ARHM thats a disavantage to the 27 with only SARHM and medium-range infrareds.

thats pretty much it for now. I'd really like to learn more about the 27's radar modes and usages so... give it a go =)

Thank you all!

See you around

I know the basics, im looking for opinions, stories and real multiplayer experiences. Knowing how it works is alot different from what you actually do while flying / fighting.

For searching there's basically three things you need to do. Scan left and right, scan up and down (to maximum ranges sometimes, especially if you think the bandit is close) and change PRF (pulse repetition frequency). The latter is your sensitivity to bandits flying towards you (high PRF) or away from you (medium PRF). ILV PRF is interleaved where it switches between high and low.

TWS does not have benefits like the F-15C does where you can launch a missile without giving the target the launch warning, but TWS is certainly handy to get aspect information of multiple bandits at the same time, without the need to lock each one of them up.

Also don't forget to do occasional scans with EOS.

2. What kind of procedure do you take when you realise your up against a F-15 / Maddogged 120? Since F-15 if full of ARH that's a disavdantage to the 27 with only SARH and medium-range infrareds.
If you detect him early enough, use the range advantage of your R-27ER's. Launch from high, then descend and crank to minimize closure and increase ground clutter for the F-15. Try to keep him at a distance. There is no fool proof way of winning this battle, but there are many foolish ways of losing it.

Besides that, use teamwork! Check out the 51st PVO Regiment. We fly the Su-27 almost solely and use superior teamwork to win our battles.

There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

You should find that ERs don't lose lock as often as in FC1, as they have been

given substantially better resistance to chaff. That said the launching AC radar

can still be notched if you are not careful.

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

Some already mentioned the basics, and just as Case said, if you find him early enough, you can use your range advantage. An ER fired from angels high, at a high bandit is a dangerous weapon, and if your bandit doesn't go defensive or take immediate actions, he is in a serious trouble. But when you see him turn his back on you, don't just fire up the burners and follow him... there may well be a few amraams on their way towards you. Keep cranking and staying safe while monitoring the bandit via radar or EOS if he is extending.

From my tests thus far, it is not worth betting on the fact that the ER launched from Rmax will hit, it is purely to scare the bandit. As such, providing better launch parameters for the ER is crucial in the outcome of the fight. I find the best time to launch is 40-35km, with 5-9 second interval between missile launches.

By this time it is possible that the bandit will fire at you with an early AIM-120C/B, some pilots will spam you with up to 3 missiles (witnessed online already), in these situations it is better to perform a tactical turn (180 degrees) and extend full burn, you want to minimize closure rate as much as possible. Notching is also a very good option, but it all depends on the situation you are in, if you are going to start marking while diving between 12,000m to ~5,000m you are inviting more bandits to switch on you and thus getting into deeper trouble.

There is an infinite amount of scenarios :) not a simple equation.
