pilotbaxter007 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I know this is going to shock you, but how do I disable the 6DOF cockpit in the KA-50? I know it's in the .lua files, and i can edit those, I just need to know what file and where to edit and how. The problem w/ the 6DOF cockpit is that the viewpoint shifts every time I maneuver (this is the proper function of 6DOF), and It's hard to learn to fly the heli when it's doing that. Also, what are the BARE commands required to use the helicopter in combat, and fly it. I look in the options., and there are so many that I need to know which ones to assign to the joystick buttons near my fingers (5, excluding the trigger). I know two of those NEED to be trim and trim reset, but what are the most important combat commands besides missile launch (need help figuring out how to lock a simple ground target in skhval, for simplicity, say it's a stationary one). What do I do to lock something up, and what are all of the joystick commands required to do it (how do you use the HMS). Please help me, as I love DCS and want to get back into Flight sims. On another note, I wish ED would make their activation policy more clear. Can you get extra activations if you run out? I've got 5 left. I also wish ED would stop the "pay 4 upgrade" thing. W/ FC 2.0, it's bad that we HHAVE to buy it if we just need win 7 compatibility. I'm going to have to buy it just because of that, although the new features are cool. Please help me and give me DCS target lockup 101.
Total Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 (edited) TrackIR Easiest method - You can disable the axis's you don't desire in the TrackIR software and save those settings as a profile. Before you launch DCS, load that profile and you're good to go (I have a profile for each game I play lol) Activations As far as activations, you can deactivate a product if you need to reinstall. This keeps you from have to use up another activation. You can also backup your activation from the registry. Flaming Cliffs 2.0 As far as pay to upgrade, FC2 is not a patch. It's an entirely new addon. 2003 - Lock On: Modern Air Combat $30 (patches) 2005 - Flaming Cliffs $15 (patches) 2010 - Flaming Cliffs 2.0 $30 For those who bought LOMAC at the release, that's pretty much a decade of enjoyment for $75. Also, remember that ED can't continue to pay developers unless there's cash coming in ;) To put in contrast - Pay to Play MMORPG players will spend that for about 1 year of play. Modern Warfare 2 was $50. At best, it will see a 3 year run before it falls off into near oblivion. Targeting in the KA-50 First, make sure your laser is turn on. The laser does not have infinite range. I don't have the manual here at work, but there is a maximum effective range for targeting. Align your camera to the target and adjust your frame size on the Shkval camera to fit your target. Hit the lock button (Enter by default if I remember correctly) and you should get a TA on the Shkval. That means you are locked. Make sure you have the right weapon selected too.The manual also has the max effective range for guns and Vhikr rockets. Hope this helps :) Edited April 5, 2010 by Total
EtherealN Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 (edited) 6DOF is not something you techincally disable - what I believe you mean is what's called the natural head movement that causes the head to lean around slightly when turning? (6DOF simply means you are able to move in all three axes as well as rotate around all of them.) I'm fairly certain it can be disabled in FC2, so it should be possible in DCS:BS as well, though I'd have to dig a bit to find where it was. On commands to map to your stick, that really depends on you. When there's a limited amount of buttons it comes down to preference. What I have on my buttons is: 1) Cannon trigger 2) Weapon release 3) Trim 4) Target Lock/Target Designation 5) Skhval zoom in 6) Skhval zoom out And Skhval panning on the hatswitch, Collective on the throttle axis. --- The activation policy is clear. Refer to your quicklaunch manual where it states the following: "You are provided eight activations. If you require more after you have used all the ones provided, you may contact customer service at: [this forum]" About pay 4 upgrade, you mean the fact that FC2 is something you have to pay for? You realize that it's not just a simple patch, it's a porting of FC onto a whole new generation TFCSE as well as sporting a whole new sound engine and a tonne of other improvements. (For perspective - as far as I recall there was a smaller technological difference between Quake 1 and 2 ;) ) The alternative to it costing money is not for it to be free, it's for the newest FC to still be 1.12. You do not develop a product for that amount of time with a full team without having a way to recoup the expense. ;) Edited April 5, 2010 by EtherealN [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

I've bought fc 2.0, and i need to know how to disable the 6dof cockpit and where the view distance setting is (default cockpit zoom, so I'm not looking only @ the HUD when it starts).
pilotbaxter007 Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 How do i get DCS to find my pro-pedals? I want to get the pro-pedals to work for rudder and wheel brakes.
EtherealN Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Actually, I know several people who successfully run FC 1.12 on Windows 7. If you experience problems with that you could make a thread in the "Help Desk" subsection of the Lock On forum so that the existing Win7/FC 1.12 users can help you. I myself use Vista so it would be difficult for me to be of assistance there, sadly. (Also, how many companies release compatibility patches for 5 year old products? ;) ) DCS should find your pedals automatically if they are detected by Windows/DirectX (DCS uses DirectInput for all of that). Is that Saitek Pro-Flight pedals? About the 6DOF cockpit, I'd still need to know exactly what you mean. Do you want to disable the ability move your view (6DOF), or do you want to disable what's called "Natural Head Movement"? EtherealN Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 (edited) For "Natural Head Movement", check this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=51850 I believe it should apply equally to both DCS and FC2. (Digging through the DCS files at the moment to verify.) EDIT There we go, get Notepad++ (free download, do not use regular notepad), then open C:\Games\BlackShark\Config\View\view.lua, and find the below at line 186: head_roll_shaking = true head_roll_shaking_max = 45.0 head_roll_shaking_compensation_gain = 0.5 Change it to head_roll_shaking = false head_roll_shaking_max = 45.0 head_roll_shaking_compensation_gain = 0.5 That should work. Obviously, take a backup of that file first, and do note that if a multiplayer server has that file on integrity check you will be unable to join that server. pilotbaxter007 Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 I'm ok, it was that stupid natural head movement thing - nothin natural about it, use a track-ir if u want "Head movement"
EtherealN Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 It's actually more natural than you might think - I move my head very much like that IRL when maneuvering. (It basically simulates uncounscious head movements cause by shifting balance.) But that said - whatever works for you, works, and the most important thing there is in training is to remove all possible distractions. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
