I want to simulate a chopper coming in and dropping off units, but when I start putting the waypoint near the ground, the waypoints get VERY buggy. In particular, I have the waypoint set for 10kmh speed, and and altitude of 1020 meters, which is still about 20 meters higher than the terrain. However, I cannot get the Mi-26 to get anywhere near the ground, even at this speed and with setting the waypoint type to "flyover"- the Mi-26 gets to about 60 meters AGL and then chickens out and rapidly flies upwards. Furthermore, after I have flown the mission (in the editor by pressing the fly button), and I come back, the altitude over the waypoint reverts to the altitude of the terrain over the point where the aircraft originally is spawned at- 2122 meters. WHAT THE #@%^?!

Does anyone know a way around these bugs and a way to get a helicopter (in particular, a Mi-26) to approach the ground slowly so I can simulate it dropping off equipment in a sling?

Hmm... the altitude of my steerpoint 15 is not only reverting back to the elevation of the terrain over which the unit is initially spawned, but it also randomly changes too... one time I look at it, it's 1020, next time, 1080, next time, 1200. This is SO buggy.

ugh... I'm about to give up on this... it's unbelievable, now I'm having trouble specifying what alititude I want these helicopters to fly at even when the steerpoint altitude I want is hundreds of meters away from the ground... I'll type in that I want the helicopter to fly at 1600 meters altitude (and the terrain is at 1200 meters altitude), then I come back a minute later and the number has changed to, like, 2160 or something. Please tell me I'm not the only one that has experienced crap like this?

Hi !

I have the same problem when I try to edit a mission lot of times.. I edit hundred times mi helicopter.. to player.. to client.. expert... and zas! .. the route points do whatever except, what I want to do... hum!

I don't know if there is a solution but, I'll try re-building the mission again, with the same variables.... but without editing the groups of helis so much...

I'll send you a report, in few days.. sorry, my work don't let me more chance these week!!

Please report, your solution if you try something or fix the problem.

Thanks

Achurro

Take a look at Dart's answer to this question. I've tried it and it works...it just takes a little work to pull it off. There is a lot of trial and error. Don't give up.

Sorry, doesn't work. Why? Well, I cannot reliably edit the waypoint altitude. I type in 1200, and literally, the second I click away, it changes to 1313. The height of the terrain under the waypoint is only 1100 meters. For the love of god ED, FIX THIS!

Ok, I think I've worked through it. These are some tips and observations I can offer:

First: To edit a waypoint, CLICK ON IT! DO NOT use the arrows to navigate through them- physically, you need to scroll to the location of the waypoint and click on it. Cycling through the waypoints with the arrows tends to give you more of the behavior where the steerpoint altitude changes the second you click away from it. However, if you select the steerpoint by clicking on it on the UI, the assigned altitude seems to "stick" better.

Secondly:

The altitude of the helicopter's waypoints needs to be the very LAST thing you edit before saving the mission. If the mission is later opened, and then saved on top of itself, even if you didn't even touch anything on the map, it may corrupt the helicopter's altitudes.

Third: DO NOT CHECK the altitudes of the waypoints. Just the act of looking at them seems to change them.

Finally: Helicopters and aircraft seem to be VERY terraphobic. They will not approach anywhere near the ground for any reason other than landing, even at very slow speeds and using fly-through waypoints. However, I can get them CLOSE ENOUGH- about 40-50 meters or so, that it looks at least passable, especially if you're trying to simulate vehicles being dropped off in a sling with the Mi-26.

So I guess now I can continue building the mission, now that I am reasonably confident that I can get the AI choppers' steerpoints back at the right altitude as the last step that I do.

Yes, mountainous terrain, but there are no serious ridges anywhere around... I'm trying to get the chopper to hover in flat-bottomed river valley.

Ok Speed !!

I take note. This weekend I'll do again the mission with the altitude in last place. I'll notice.

Thanks!
