Hello,

I am experimenting with multiple B-1s trying to blanket an airfield with MK84s. I set a runway strike and get decent results. However, trying to bomb the taxiways and HAS, I have other bombers approaching from different points of the compass and I think adequate spacing for them to line up, etc., but after the first bomber unloads on the runway the other bombers just end up flying over and not releasing their precious cargo.

Sometimes one of them will start opening bombay doors, but then immediately close them. Also I have the bombers approaching at a minimum altitude of 200 m and max speed. I followed the tutorial in the FC2.0GUI manual on setting begin and end target points, but they just end up flying over and not releasing. Any ideas?

Test each bomber one at a time. Just put a 10 day delay on the other bombers so that only one goes in on the strike. If it bombs the target like it should add another bomber. Do this until it breaks. Spacing could be an issue, but I havn't experimented with using multiple B1's to take out different parts of an airbase.

Attach your mission and we'll take a look at your set-up to see if it can be improved.

Here you go. I have run it a few times and each time bombers 2 & 3 do different things. Bomber 2 will either release 1 bomb, next time it drops all, or just fly over. Bomber 3 will fly over release nothing, or just turn away from the airfield after the IP. Bomber 1 always drops on the runway.

10 minute delay? I will try that.

Here is an adjusted set-up for you. When setting targeting points, the AI will generally require quite a bit of space to line up. Usually you will need at least 10 kilometers or more between the targeting waypoint and the target itself. When setting up carpet bombing runs, it also helps to keep everything lined up as much as possible before, during and after the targeting WP, so the AI doesn't have to make turns to line up for the run. For standard targeting points (not carpet bombing), keep in mind that the AI may have to find an approach angle depending on conditins, such as into or against the wind or into or against the direction of a convoy of vehicles, etc.
