An experiment

A new mission gameplay experiment

The Doug Masters 1980's Furball

(Mission name subject to change)

Multiple players have suggested at the idea of having "80s missions" where the use of active missiles are prohibited. I've also had the idea of "refining airquake." Why have it be part sim and part teamdeathmatch? In my opinion its one or the other. So here is my attempt of refining the gameplay ideal of airquake into a clearly defined, balanced, fun, and easy to understand quantity.

We will be testing a mission I created today. Its a rehash of the classic scenario of aircraft limited to Semi-active missiles. The premise is simple. Its an 8 versus 8 and aircraft are armed with only 2 semi active missiles and 4 short ranged IR missiles. Red spawns in the air above Maykop. Blue overhead of Sochi. Red has 4 Su-27 and 4 Mig-29S, while blue is 8-F-15s. It can be played with any number of players, all that is required is at least 1 player on each team.

As the famed President Tom Benson said in Hot Shots! Part Duex. "We'll settle this the old navy way; The first guy to die, LOSES!"

There are no sams, there are no ground pounders, neither side owns a base. Your only goal is to shoot down the other guy. What makes this different? Well I've had some fun with triggers. This mission is round based. Meaning that dead is dead... at least until the next round. That's right, its Counter-Strike gamerules! Sadly we can't prevent a player from hitting "fly" whenever they choose to, so if you attempt to respawn while the round is taking place you will just explode and ruin your score even more.

Once a team wins a round players will have a set time to respawn before the next round starts.

This mission is intended to be quick and fun. Quick because I built it in a few hours, fun because who doesn't like a BVR fight that will likely lead to WVR engagements? Its currently a pure team deathmatch style mode. I am keen to add some of advanced goodies to the table. Perhaps time limits, keeping track of rounds won, and other standbys of games might be implemented.

As a side note. This isn't the mission I've been working on for a few weeks and that I've been hinting at its epicness in forum posts. I literally made this mission in 3 hours.

Keep in mind it needs to be tested. Everything *should* work but you never quite know until you actually try it.

In this mission externals are enabled for your team only. I've done this so people can spectate the fight if they get shot down early.
