All,

I’m trying to setup a mission where you capture an enemy’s airbase, and then have a Transport helicopter bring in the FARP support units. This is setup as US taking over a RU FARP with a Chinook bringing in the support units. I have waypoints set so that the Chinook is supposed to fly about 6 m about the FARP at approximately 5 kmh. The Chinook does slow down, but I cannot get the Chinooks to go less than approximately 90 meters. Can anyone tell my what is going on?:book: :helpsmilie:

Thanks

Directly above the farp? They may have airspace limitations where they don't like to fly low over FARPS or airbases. I'd try to get him to hover really low close to the farp but not directly above it.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

I'll give that a shot.

AKA_Clutter,

The problem might be the one Grimes suggested, but it can also be the way you did set waypoints on the approach to the FARP. I did have some similar problems, and to solve them, I had to play with the waypoints and their parameters. What I’m trying to say is that you must do it (let’s say) like this:

WP1 (on route): 200km/h, 100m

WP2 (some 200m before FARP): 100km/h, 50m

WP3 (30m before FARP): 40km/h, 20m

WP4 (10m before FARP): 20km/h, 10m

WP5 (5m before FARP): 5km/h, 6m

WP6 (5m after FARP): 200km/h, 100m

Here I must warn you that this might not work instantly, but if you see some improvement, try changing a bit some of those speeds and alts till you have the result.

If you go only with WP1, WP5 and WP6, the helicopter will not be able to achieve requested parameters and you will not get the result you wish.

:-( No luck. No significant difference in height. I had the AI go to an altitude of 25 m About 2500 m from the FARP. It did not go to less than 50 m

Igormk, my original set was something similar to that. Ill go and tweak my test setup to see if it helps.

Thanks!

Igormk,

No luck with that either. The setup has the chopper down to 30m at 30 kmh about 2 - 2.5 km from the FARP once it gets to within ~ 1.75 km, it pops back up to ~54m w/o a real increase/decrease in speed. Later on it slows to 20 and then 5 kmh w/o a change in alt. I've tried with the FARP being captured before the Chinook gets within 1.75 km. :-(

I just went through this as well. See my topic on "Insertion missions and waypoint altitude bugs" or w/e I called it. Make sure you set the waypoints to fly-through, and as the AI reaches the waypoint, he will descend to about 40 meters AGL before freaking out and climbing away rapidly. That's as close as you can get, I think.
