ZQuickSilverZ Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 (edited) The very first flight simulator I ever played/owned was 3D Helicopter Simulator by Sierra. This came out in 1987. and would you beleive it had head to head multiplayer through modem support????? IN THE FREAKIN 80's!!! It really was 3D to. You could even switch veiws to overhead, tower, and kinda like the hood veiw in Gran Turismo. You could combat the computer or another player and if I remember right even land on top of buildings and fly under a bridge (I only ever saw one). Also if I remember right (what do u want from me it was 23 years ago I was 10 years old) It even had ships in the river. Some intresting features are autorotation, refueling and repair, reloading missles, some destructible objects, and malfunctioning gauges. http://www.sierragamers.com/aspx/blob2/blobpage.aspx/msgid/643914 Seeing this relic really makes you appreciate how much technology has advanced and how talanted todays programers are. It makes you appreciate the advances in game design. Lets look at this and look at Blackshark and be thankful for Eagle Dynamics. Dynamic Indeed. Also let this stand as a testiment that we have not "hit a wall" in game design and that the future is filled with endless possibilities. (Personaly I am waiting for "Holo"copter 2025 in this version the hologram of a cockpit just floats in front of and around you and uses motion tracking to see what buttons and switches you use. How about that for interactive. A guy can dream right?) Edited April 20, 2010 by ZQuickSilverZ I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original. "Off with his job" Mr Burns on the Simpsons. "I've seen steering wheels / arcade sticks / flight sticks for over a hundred dollars; why be surprised at a 150 dollar item that includes the complexities of this controller?! It has BLINKY LIGHTS!!" author unknown. These titles are listed in the chronological order I purchased them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Hell I remember how Triple Action on our Intellivision II was the coolest thing in the world, it was of course my first tank, driving and bi-plane simulator....... well sorta! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
ShadowVonChadwick Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 It also makes you appreciate how talented were they back then. When I remember my lovely F-19 stealth fighter from Micropose I can't hardly believe that such a rich and dynamic 3D world was possible in my 286 with 640 KB. You almost made me cry after doing a quick search for some pics, brought back happy memories with my oldest son fighting over whos turn it was.
