EtherealN Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 You can override it, but it will not track. I suggest trying it against an afterburning target, and against a tail-on target. No need, I've done that before in some thread somewhere. LA (and kill) with launcher at 4k meters, target at 10k meters, no AB on target, was ~8nm if memory serves. With both aircraft at 10km altitude and still no AB on the target, LA (and kill) was at 10+nm. At head on it's crap. RvEYoda Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I`ve done some tests and here are the range numbers for AIM-120C, AIM-120B, R-27ER, R-27ET, R-77 with the following standard conditions: head on flying, both player and target at altitude of 5000m, player speed approx. 700 km/h, target speed 1000 km/h. Launch autorization at: AIM-120C - 23 miles (37 km) AIM-120B - 20 miles (32 km) R-27ER - 46 km R-27ET - 6 km* R-77 - 40 km * Max range shown under the mentioned conditions was 38 km (the target locked with radar and R-27ET chosen), but missile lock and launch authorization at 6km. Is it possible to override the launch authorization and launch it earlier like it was possible in FC 1.12b and if yes will the missile track the target and up to what ranges over those 6 km? It is nautical miles, not "normal miles". Your table should be something like : AIM-120C - 23 miles (42.6 km) AIM-120B - 20 miles (37 km) R-27ER - 46 km R-27ET - 6 km* R-77 - 40 km 1 nautical mile = 1.85200 kilometers 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers . 1 S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'
topol-m Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 It is nautical miles, not "normal miles". Wow I didn`t notice it was in nm  Correction following... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

What I was more impressed with though was the distance at which the EOS was able to find and lock the target, under the same conditions - 60 km  [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Try 900kph for both ... this is the typical scenario in the combat charts. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
topol-m Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 Try 900kph for both ... this is the typical scenario in the combat charts. LA at similar distance - 12 km. This time the EOS was able to find and lock the target at 30 km (target not using afterburner). Which brings another question: In FC 2.0 let`s say the enemy is chasing me and with EOS locks and fires an ET :alien: at me. What happens if I reduce thrust to 10% for instance and release flares? Does the missile continue to track me? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 If your EOS loses lock, so will the missile ... ;) Not sure if you go to 10% it will do much. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

topol-m Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 It wouldn't be realistic if it did work, because the engines don't cool instantaneous. I meant will the flares have more chance of distracting the missile, as the heat from the engines will be significantly reduced? And vice versa, are the missiles having a more stable lock if I`m using afterburner, how is this modeled in the game? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
asparagin Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 You may compare flare vs. warm and cool tail which in RL (not sure how much in FC) plays an important role. I have the impression FC models only with / without AB. The people in charge can tell you more. But the situation described were someone fires a missile at you, and you reduce thrust won't make the flares more effective, because by the time the missile reaches you the tail is as hot as before. Sidenote: in F4.0 AF you must be out of AB couple of minutes before someone fires a IR at you and you have better chances of survival. 1 Spoiler AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, MSI MEG X570 UNIFY (AM4, AMD X570, ATX), Noctua NH-DH14, EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti XC3 ULTRA, Seasonic Focus PX (850W), Kingston HyperX 240GB, Samsung 970 EVO Plus (1000GB, M.2 2280), 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 DIMM CL16, Cooler Master 932 HAF, Samsung Odyssey G5; 34", Win 10 X64 Pro, Track IR, TM Warthog, TM MFDs, Saitek Pro Flight Rudders
