I am new to this ME and man what a pain. I know getting objects and a/c in the right spots is a real pain. I don't know how everyone does it but I did stumble on a way that really helps, at least for SP and small exercises. Did not place any armor objects but did place objects around the airport and added in static a/c etc. I just input a flyable a/c and started on ramp, taxied to where I wanted to place a/c and objects, pointed in the desired direction then I got the lat/long and a reasonable heading to get started. Did this for everything I wanted to place. It's not perfect but it helps a lot. Would appreciate any ideas that you may have in how you place objects and a/c with some sort of accuracy. Oh for some of the features in the FC1.12 editor.:D

Not having the satellite view is a big drawback in making missions for FC2/DCS. However, the editor is very moddable, and some good mods have been released. Check out Blindspot's Modded ME. This also contains my Bearing Bug Fix. These mods will make your life a little easier.

I just zoom in and place them according to the ME map, then run the mission and look at the objects using the F-keys (I think F12 is for statics) and if they look wrong, remember or make a note of it and do another adjustment in the mission editor after ending the mission.

Another suggestion is to set the game to run windowed, run the single-player game for the mission editor, and then run the multiplayer client (you can have both running simultaneously). Host the mission on the multiplayer client, look at where the objects are, and then switch to the SP client with the editor and move them. Then once you've made enough changes and want to preview them again, 'disconnect' from the MP session, save the mission in the editor, and re-launch it in MP.

Might also want to look at the Mission Editor - Hot Tips thread, if you haven't already.

On the bright side, rumour has it that ED are intending to add satellite view and other nice features to the editor with DCS: Warthog.

No obj sat view is a huge blunder that I hope will be fixed. How hard can it be? I would pay for it as a DLC even.

Well we sorta already did pay. It just got deleted.:D

Havoc, it's not a blunder - everything was rebuilt based on the DCS engine, most likely to get away from the IP of Ubisoft.

Using the same project code for all the sims enables us to fly together and share mods, as well as ED being the owner of the code.

Unfortunately the Mission Editor will need a little bit more work to get up to par again.
