K-Nadian87 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Hey everybody, Quick question... im finding that when i use autopilot, or Altitude hold, and disengage it, my plane twists and turns violently. Sometimes this occurs as soon as I engage autopilot. the only way to fix this is for me to disengage and Cntrl +T the trim... whats the deal with this?
nomdeplume Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 It seems to me that the autopilot uses the trim channels to maneuver the aircraft. As soon as you activate autopilot, it applies a whole bunch of trim to get the plane to level out. If you disengage the AP while it's still maneuvering, those trim settings remain. I don't know if APs function this way in real life or not. But for the sim, I just make sure not to activate the AP until I'm flying pretty much however it will be holding me, or if I'm willing to wait a while for it to sort itself out. Also, if you're flying the Su-25T, apparently there's a somewhat deeper level of simulation in play. It takes the plane about 3 minutes from engine start to initialise the INS (or somesuch) and if you activate the AP before it's ready, it will send incorrect inputs to try to level the plane out.
K-Nadian87 Posted August 5, 2010 Author Posted August 5, 2010 am I crazy thinking that AP should direct me to my designated WP? Cuz thats not the case... it twists me toward the ground and away from my WP...
slug88 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 There are many different AP modes, and different behaviors across aircraft. Which aircraft are you flying? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Nate--IRL-- Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 In general the AP will attempt to get you back on the Desired Waypoint track, if you have deviated from the waypoint track the AP will turn toward it. Once on the waypoint track, only then will it point to the waypoint. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
