BBQ Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I just bumped up to Windows 7 64 bit from 32 bit Windows 7. I have a backup of old computer (32 bit) and copied entire Eagle Dynamics directory over to new 64 bit system. In the "old" days, this used to work. Problem is, I left my install disc at my mom's, about an hour away, and wondered if there was any way this was going to work. I"m assuming no, but thought I'd give it a try before making the drive across town to get my disc!

Installing a program usually adds registration keys and support files to other locations besides just the installation directory. That all depends on the program of course and I haven't done any system image comparisons with BS / DCS to know for sure. 2. Does the program you're installing have a 64-bit version or is it a 32-bit program that runs in 32-bit mode on a 64-bit machine? If it does have both versions then you'll want to reinstall it using the 64-bit installer instead of copying the 32-bit version over. Either way, it is always better to just reinstall it rather than copy files over.
G3 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 have never tried it that way so take these ideas with a grain of salt. copying over the whole folder may work if you have a backup of the old 32bit reg key, and import it after you reinstall the game then maybe just maybe it will work if you installed to the same place with uac turned off but not truely sure. copying over the whole folder is normally ok but you may run into trouble with it requiring another activation due to the swap between 32 and 64 bit OS, will be interested to hear how you go.
