deloy Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I had to reinstall my OS (win XP) due virus, havent changed any hardware, and the OS is the same. Now i have dual OS, one which was screwed up because of virus and the newly installed one. However, as i had to reinstall BS again, I am being asked for activation, is it possible to avoid activation on new OS, as I havent really changed anything, just reinstall of the same OS? If this sorts out, I will delete the old OS Regards
pitbull Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 just enter you product key when prompted. If nothing has changed in your config, then no installation activation will be deducted. GhostDog Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 P.S. you should probably go ahead and format your hard disk and start with a fresh XP install on a clean drive. It may save you headaches down the road. EtherealN Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Before OS reinstalls it is usually safest to deactivate. If you still have the old install in there I guess you could try copying the registry entries over, but this is not a guaranteed solution. I'd say just go ahead and activate. If you run out you can get refills, anyhow. Nose Nuggets Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Two windows OS's can still transfer files between their partitions. It would behoove you to wipe the driver entirely and start fresh, less you risk re-infecting your system from the infected partition.
