GGTharos Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Not really ... there's nothing out there that contains a comprehensive BVR combat guide insofar as I can tell (This should tell you something: It is a complicated affair, not a push-button-to-launch-missile-enemy-falls-out-of-the-sky that most people like to think of it as). I'll see if I can write up a basic guide at some point, but the real trick is this: Understand how and why your radar works, and in what conditions. In some cases the why is not necessary, just 'works like this' (Example: MPRF sucks head-on, but is great for tail-on targets. Why? Who cares - when the bandit turns tail, switch to MPRF. On the other hand, you probably want to know why the notch is effective, as it has bearing on your tactics). In any case, the same information is then applied to radar missiles for example - so their radars work the same way usually. This means understanding the physical construction of a radar (insofar as gimbals - ie. how far antennae can point to the side etc) as well as some understanding of what the radar can detect/track and why. For missiles this becomes important because under certain circumstances you can simply defeat the seeker by out-gimablling it. This tends to be a bit of an exercise in mathematics to understand well, but the end result is that in practice, you will end up with a plan of action for employing your missiles and making their missiles miss - all at the same time. 104th_Crunch Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Don't forget, you need to constantly adjust to fly an exact 90 deg notch. If you are notching to the left for example, as the bandit closes in, you need to constantly turn right slightly to keep the 90 deg, or else the bandit will constantly get behind you at an angle greater than 90 deg.
